My Experience On Jatenzo (Oral TRT) Log

I was on Jatenzo for a while to see how well it worked. Seemed to do ok, had my t level in the ~600+ range. BUT, the cost is ridiculous. Below is a screenshot of what Anthem charges for it. They have not yet come after me for the "Your responsibility" fee, so I'm not sure if I have to pay it. When I picked up the medication, the copay was only $10, so I actually thought I was picking up a different med. But it was this. So I'm not sure why the copay was only $10, and not $600. Any thoughts?

I believe the only reason my copay is low ($8) for Jatenzo is that medical exception my doctor gave me.

It’s not like Medicare is known for covering stuff.

My endocrinologist contacted me to tell me he spoke at length with a hematologist about me and came to the conclusion I no longer have to get phlebotomies, as long as I have no symptoms of high blood pressure, headaches, fatigue, abdominal pain and vision changes, no phlebotomies needed.

If anything my blood pressure went up shortly after my phlebotomies, my diabetes get worse temporarily and I became heat intolerant. For weeks after the phlebotomies my hands wouldn’t prune up after long hot showers.

My last hemoglobin levels were 18.4 and hematocrit 53%.

Jardiance was the cause of my elevated hemoglobin and hematocrit. I've been off it since the 24th of December. New labs clearly show it.

HGB

17.1 g/dL

13.5 - 17.5 g/dL

HCT, AUTO

49.9 %

41.0 - 51.0 %

Hi,

Interested. Help me understand more. What were your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels before? What was Jardiance for Diabetes??? On a different diabetes med now?

I have been trying to fix mine. My Haemoglobin hit 199 last year. Tried for 6 months to donate. Managed to scrap in twice and Sunday is my next. I had blood test recently and it was 165 but the doctor still wants me to see a specialist and I also do. 5 years I have been trying to find the reason. I haven’t been on trt for that long.

Wow. How did you feel at 199 hemoglobin? And how did you feel donating so often???

Keep me posted. I have the same problem.

I felt really lethargic. My Trt doctor asked me how I was feeling after dropping from 200 to 175. I told him really lethargic and no energy.
Was a bit miserable and getting lots of headaches. Then he told me what my haemoglobin was and my red blood count was over high normal.
At the moment I’m only donating every 3 months and I feel good for a few weeks after donating. I found a new doctor who had me take tests recently and i was at 164 so I don’t know what happened as it’s never been under 172 and sits at above 180 normally since being on trt. But I did drink 3 litres of water after lunch and then go have blood taken. But my blood wouldn’t flow.
Im now booked in for more tests at the cancer clinic at the end of June.
Bit of a worry when I have been told I could have bone marrow cancer but I have to go doctor shopping to find someone to help me.

Donating every 3 month will sure deplete your ferritin, make sure you monitor ferritin and iron. I used to donate every 4 month did it only twice maybe with many lab tests and my ferritin went to 10 ,,,,I had blood pressure issues, I couldn’t sleep at night and if I sleep I wake up after 2 hours or so.

Watch out for ferritin. This is dead serious, In my experience you need to donate once every 6 month only to barley keep good ferritin level.

You don’t have high haemoglobin like mine so you can’t talk Cut off for donating is 185. Mine hit 199 and it took an hour for my Trt doctor to take half a bag.
I know what I need to do. I have the appointment at the cancer clinic to have more tests. Until then I will donate every 3 months if I can because I don’t want to have a stroke or heart attack because my blood is to thick.

Eat real food and don’t drink alcohol.

How are you managing ferritin ?
