Hi all, I'm new here, turn 48 this month, and am trying to get some knowledge about aging. My Dr checked my testosterone levels and they came back normal,77. I have no sex drive, low energy, mood swings and am getting small muscle gain at the gym. My Dr said no to hormone therapy and that it wouldn't put on muscle. I have a back recovering from several injuries as well. Would HGH help? I'm just really frustrated and tired a lot.Just a matter of getting older? Positive for 12 years.

We're all glad you joined EM, but without more detail - lab values, medicines/supplements you're taking, broader discussion of symptoms - our response will frustrate you. More information will lead to a fuller conversation.

Click on the DiscountLabs.com link and select the pre TRT Hormone Wellness test. Will cost you $260 but it will be the best $260 you have ever spent. Think of it as an investment in your health and quality of life. Once you get the results, post them in the Blood Test section and just describe all your symptoms. You will then be in good hands with some very good guidance from the experts here. And by the way, you should consider finding a new doctor.

Why a new Dr? He's a fantastic hiv specialist

Yeah, that's wonderful...what does he know about modern TRT protocols? Do you have any idea how many guys come to this forum while under the care of Primary Care Physicians, Endos, and Urologists that are completely clueless about TRT? The number is staggering.

Sooner or later these very same guys come to the realization that that their doctors have been treating them with decades out of date protocols, because they feel like crap.

You can save yourself a lot of misery by getting a doctor that is an expert in the TRT field. A lot of us here found that expertise at Defy Medical. That is the best advice I can give you.

This is true and I am new myself . You wouldn't let your regular Doc do open heart surgery if it needed to be done . Ok that's my redneck theory of the day ! lol

77 ng/ml similar to 40 nmol/l, 1154 ng/dl Mind sharing with us Dr. Fantisimo's work up on your symptoms and treatment plan?

"great numbers, undetectable! your triglycerides are mite high along with your LDL, liver enzymes and serum creatinine, nothing of any concern though since you EGFR is still above 50."

"But what about the fatigue, loss of lean mass, libido and mood swings"?

"Here's some antihistamines that will help you sleep better. Let's count your T cells again in 3 months shall we"?

"I've heard something about proximal tubular cell dysfunction, mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress associated with these drugs"

"You have now, hmm stay off the www. "

"But these were studies published in medscape, wiley, ncbi,nih..."

"Look, all of my pt's under 60 still have their kidneys, I bet you didn't know g-d gave you a spare"

"What if I try NAC, ALC ALA..."

"Nonsense, don't waste your money" "Have you tried Paxil? Clonozepam?" "let's go with that for now"

I also have a fantastic Doctor but when his PA said she had never heard of SHBG (mine was 101), and then saw him and he said lets trick it - take 1/2 DHEA ever other day I thought oh boy! So I then was referred to an Endocrinologist 2 months later and he said there was nothing wrong with high SHBG! - I knew then that it was time to go hunting.

I had already read 4 books, 3 by MD'S (one was Testosterone for Life by Dr. Abraham Morgentaler Associate Clinical Professor Harvard Medical School Dept Urology) and all three MD's said they were never taught T treatment in med school. Why not? No money in it for big pharma - simple as that. The FDA will never (imo) fully support proper T therapy because too much influence from drug companies and mega billions they make off of all the drugs they sell that proper testosterone levels could cure.

Another great book to read is Dr. Eugene Shippen's - The Testosterone Syndrome - written in 1998.

You may consider doing some self educating as I had to and also read Nelson's book. So if it were me and having gone thru what I went thru, I would do the complete blood test and post results here. You will then have superb and excellent guidance of how to proceed.

Good luck and happy hunting!
