Canadian Patients: Dynacare Sensitive Estradiol Test

Canadian patients taking advantage of Dynacare's introduction of the Sensitive (LC, MS, MS) Estradiol test should ALWAYS CONFIRM THAT THE CLERK AT THE RECEPTION DESK HAS ENTERED THE PROPER CODE FOR THE SENSITIVE TEST. Earlier this week I discovered that the "standard" e2 test had been entered despite the fact that my doctor had clearly ordered the sensitive test. I only caught it because I asked to see what the clerk had ordered. It was wrong. In fact, she argued that there was only one estradiol test and she had entered it properly. She hadn't. We have to remain our own advocates.

Did they forget to mention it to their staff.........LOL!

I had a conversation with a woman from the Dynacare head office regarding the sensitive assay testing.

The blood samples are sent to Labcorp in the US for the testing and the turn around time for results is roughly 11 days.

There does not appear to be any Dynacare locations in Alberta, the listing stops at Manitoba. Not exactly all that helpful.

I contacted DynaLife in Edmonton to see if they could prepare the recommended tests outlined on this webpage. They said they could with a doctor request prepare the tests and to at or higher than the US standards.

This is what they wrote to me in an email:

Good morning.

We do the run all the tests here at DynaLIFE if the Physician orders them.

However, For the last two or three tests TT = total testosterone and FT = free testosterone or estradiol we do measure these analytes by alternative methodologies (immunoassay in our case) and not LC/MS-MS.
It should be noted that, while LC/MS-Ms may be more sensitive, most testosterone immunoassays compare well with LC/MS-MS. The issue might be at low levels of testosterone where LC/MS-MS is a more sensitive and specific methodology.

We do take part in CAP proficiency testing and our methods align well with other laboratories both in Canada and the United states.

Furthermore, currently in Canada, most medical laboratories use immunoassay for measurement of these analytes.

We will require a physician's order request (requisition) to collect and run these tests.

Sincerely,

I wouldn’t worry about lc/ms for total testosterone or estradiol. Bigger concern is that Direct Free T is an awful test.

Well, my Endo isn't really doing any of the tests other than Total Test. And he has my levels so high now but I still feel like crap. He never checks Estrogen or anything else. Maybe there is another problem then testosterone... Planning on firing him this week.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
