HCG Verification via Pregnancy Test

Since pregnancy tests work by detecting HCG couldn’t I pee on the stick to see if the HCG I’m on for TRT is real. I don’t doubt that it is but there was a test laying around the house so I figured I’d be double sure. Thoughts? Will that work?

I tried a pregnancy test and it was negative a day after injecting 500 IU. Asked my doctor about it and he said the test won't detect it unless it's a much higher does, like 10,000 IU. That seems weird to me.
