When did Desmo Testex Prolongatum stop adding preservative

I heard Desmo Testex Prolongatum stopped adding preservative at a certain batch numbers. Does anyone know at which batch numbers they stopt adding preservatives. I ask this because I take the 250mg/2ml solution from several ampules and put the contents in to a 10ml vial and get through the vial in a few months but can’t do that if there is no longer preservative in the Testex. I have some unopened ampules from some time ago and some I got this week all with different batch numbers but I don’t know which batch numbers if any have the preservative in. I got them in Spain. All you would need to do is look over the package insert/leaflet which will list the composition of the formula (esterified T (prodrug), carrier oil (vehiculum) and excipient.

- esterified T (prodrug) whether (undecanoate/cypionate/enanthate/propionate/ or mixed esters)

- carrier oil (vehiculum) such as (sesame, cottonseed, castor, peanut, grapeseed)

- excipient such as:

Benzyl alcohol
• Solubility enhancer • Oil viscosity reducer • Local anesthetic • Preservative

Benzyl benzoate • Solubility enhancer • Solvent

Ethanol • Solvent

Chlorobutanol • Preservative

Preservatives like BA or chlorobutanol prevent microbial growth in multi-dose vials.

Your testosterone 17β-cyclopentylpropionate or TC comes in single-use glass ampoules (2 ml each), which are sterile-sealed and intended for immediate one-time injection.

They do not need a preservative.

From my understanding they have never used one.

If you look through the public databases and check the inserts/leaflets from 2020-2025 they do not list any preservative.

Most recent package insert/leaflet.

Composition of Testex Prolongatum

The active ingredient is testosterone cyclopentylpropionate. One ampoule contains 250 mg of testosterone cyclopentylpropionate (corresponding to 174.8 mg of testosterone) in 2 ml of solution.
The other components (excipients) are: ethyl oleate and olive oil.”

Thanks for all the info, I think

Thanks for all the info. I think Testex did have a preservative in it. I was first given it by The Mens Health Clinic in the UK , the procedure was put the contents of several ampoules into a 10ml vial and use over a few months. I’ve done this for several years and so have all the clinic members on cypionate, no problems. However earlier this year the clinic emailed everyone saying that Desmo announced after a certain batch number they were stopping putting preservative into the Testex. The clinic took patients off Testex and issued another brand in 10ml vials ready filled, presumably containing preservative. I am no longer a patient in the clinic so I can’t ask them at what batch number the preservative stopped, they might not know anyway. I am currently in Spain and the pharmacist said the current batches don’t contain preservative. I of course don’t want to throw away any vials with preservative but need to be careful. I may try e mailing Desmo in Spain.

Forget worrying about the lot just look over the inserts from all your boxes of vials.

If you go through the package insert/leaflet if there ever was a preservative you would see it listed in the section under the heading Composition of Testex Prolongatum.

As I stated in my previous reply the most recent insert 2025 and the previous ones from 2020-2024 do not list a preservative.

Single-use glass ampoules are sterile-sealed and intended for immediate one-time injection so there is no need for a preservative.

Multi-dose vials it is a given.

Thanks
The insert is in Spanish and I don’t speak it. I have e mailed the manufacturer to ask them.
I get it ampoules are designed for single use but 250mg in one shot is too much for most people. Also enanthate comes in 250mg ampoules but as far as I can read it has Benzyl Benzoate which is preservative ?

Yes 250 mg T/week would be overkill.

Unfortunately as per manufacture instructions for dosing the majority are still caught up on those piss poor outdated protocols decades later.

Injecting a high dose of T once every 2 weeks.

This is why the strength/mL of the esterified T in the oily solution is so high as they were meant to be injected once every 2 weeks.

Standard recommendations would be injecting a high dose of T once every 2-4 weeks which clearly does not take advantage of the PK as this would result in a roller-coaster effect as in sky-high TT and more importantly FT 24 hrs post-injection/during the first 2-3 days followed by a slow decline over the following days and come day 10-14 levels will be much lower as in being back to hypogonadal.

This would have a negative impact on energy, mood, libido/erectile function and recovery due to wild swing from the very high peaks to much lower troughs.

Same can be said for injecting much higher doses once every 3-4 weeks.

As you should very well know the most commonly prescribed protocols used by those in the know is 100-200 mg T/week injected once or twice-weekly.

Standard starting dose across the board is 100 mg T/week or 50 mg injected twice-weekly.

Most men on T-therapy are injecting 100-200 mg T/week whether once weekly or split into more frequent injections as in twice-weekly (every 3.5 days), M/W/F, EOD or daily.

The majority of men can easily hit a healthy/high trough FT injecting 150 mg T/week especially when split into more frequent injections.

Yes there will always be those outliers who need the higher end therapeutic dose 200 mg T/week but it is far from common as in rare.

Such dose would have the majority overmedicated.

There are also those on the other end of the spectrum who can hit steallar levels injecting <100 mg T/week especially when split into more frequent injections.

Also enanthate comes in 250mg ampoules but as far as I can read it has Benzyl Benzoate which is preservative ?

This would sum up why some manufacturers use a preservative in single one time use ampoules.

* Companies include benzyl alcohol in some testosterone ampoules as a bacteriostatic preservative to protect against microbial growth during manufacturing and potential accidental reuse, despite single-use design. Others exclude it to avoid injection-site irritation, toxicity risks (like in neonates), and unnecessary excipients, relying on aseptic filling and sealed glass sterility.

Again the most recent package insert/leaflet 2025

3. How to take Testex Prolongatum

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Before starting treatment and during the first part of treatment, your doctor will measure your testosterone levels in the blood by means of a blood test. This will determine the dose of testosterone your doctor prescribes. The usual dose of Testex Prolongatum is 1 ampoule by intramuscular injection every 2–4 weeks.

Testex Prolongatum must be administered only by intramuscular injection. It is recommended to inject it into the gluteal muscle. Care must be taken not to inject the product into a blood vessel.

If you think the effect of Testex Prolongatum is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor.

Use in children and adolescents

Testex Prolongatum is not recommended for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age because of the lack of efficacy and safety data in this population.

If you take more Testex Prolongatum than you should

Symptoms of receiving too much Testex Prolongatum include irritability, nervousness, weight gain, frequent or prolonged erections. No special measures are needed, except stopping treatment or reducing the dose. Tell your doctor and he or she will tell you what to do.

In case of overdose or accidental ingestion, consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately, go to the nearest hospital or call the Toxicology Information Service on 915620420, stating the medicine and the amount taken.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
