High SHBG

Anyone with elevated SHBG - there is genetic causes of this but also a common cause is iron overload Hemochromatosis. If it were me, I would be getting a full iron panel with ferritin and saturation. This is my issue as well and I have iron overload. Very interesting. I’ve been getting a bunch of blood drawn for my labs, usually 5 times per year, and I get a ton of labs drawn each time. I also donated blood about 3 months ago. I bottomed out my iron levels unfortunately. Currently trying to build them back up. Bottoming out my iron levels unfortunately didn’t lower my SHBG one bit. Everyone’s obviously different, but at least with me, having very low iron levels didn’t seem to lower my SHBG at all.

There is a YT video out there with Dr Crisler talking about his T protocol to bust through a high SHBG then how to maintain vs protocol for a low SHBG person. Obviously, they were polar opposite protocols. I don't have a link.

I don't think it works the other way, low iron =low shbg but high iron can = high shbg With people that have iron overload, treatment does not seem to lower shbg unfortunately. Maybe sometimes it does , who knows.
