Telmisartan impact on TRT

I recently started taking 40 mg of Telmisartin 2 1/2 weeks ago. My blood pressure has been extremely high since I got Covid at the end of July. It topped out at 170/100 on my doctors visit three weeks ago, and it was time to start some meds as always, I come here because the people on here seem to just have a wealth of knowledge.

I read a lot of the old threads on Telmisartin, and it gave me a lot of good info. But since those threads are older, in some cases several years, I wanted to ask about a couple of things that I’m experiencing.

Biggest thing is my erections are pretty much gone. My libido has gone with it. I have read this isn’t a symptom, but it has gone with the start of telmisartin. I had been micro dosing .0625 of anastrozole with my shots (.17 three times a week) to keep higher estrogen in check. It was working well for about a month but stopped working well, so I stopped over the past 4 shots. It may be a combo of both.

Second is I have had prostate irritation with some inflammation and irritation when I urinate. Not severe but feels like when I had inflammation after prostatitis 10 years ago.

Lastly I have saggy water retention or what I think is water retention in my stomach and chest. It is so loose and soft that it feels like water would pour out of my body if I poked a hole in the skin. No water retention anywhere else. I have been peeing non stop since staring so it’s weird.

Since so many of you take telmisartin, just looking to see if anyone ever expirienced anything like this on it. Thanks!

does cialas or viagra work for your erections. I'm on 80 mg tel. daily and when I lay off the masturbation I'm ok. Cialas and viagra also work great for me

Dang, I dont know why that woukd affect cialas's efficacy
I’m not sure either. It’s a real struggle right now for me. My sleep is getting worse as well. Waking up after three hours and wired. I stopped my microdose of AI a couple of weeks ago, which may be contributing. I don’t want to take it, but my estrogen elevates and hurts libido and erections without it. A possible dosage reduction may help me with BP, sleep and libido.

You might try taking glycerin (same as glycerol) for the water retention. It is known to move water into the muscles. You might also try Nitric Oxide pills and see if that helps the viagra work better. I take the tablets from N1o1.com.
I normally take 6 g of citrulline powder a day. I was off of it for a few days because I traveled out of town. I started back up today.

Estrogen is supposed to help libido. Have you tried a cpap.
I take chamomile tea with glycine mixed before bed, and use a cpap. Sleep is crucial for erections. Ais no bueno for erections. Let us know how youre doing after a while!

Sleep study is on my list of things to address. Unfortunately it keeps getting longer. All this smacked me out of nowhere. I was feeling good for over a month after getting over Covid, and then my body started to fail on me out of nowhere. Thanks for support, it’s appreciated.

Libido is starting to come back around over the past couple of days, but erections are not. My flaccid state is also greatly reduced. Would an ACE inhibitor like lisinopril possibly be better?

Try Losartan and Irbesartan. They are actually known for helping ED

Curious, if losaran is also an ARB, how would it not affect me the same as Temisartin?
Even though they are arbs , they have different effects and everyone responds differently…no difference than Zyrtec vs Claritin both are antihistamines. I get no relief from Claritin but Zyrtec works perfect. I took telmisartan for about a year when I switched to Losartan I can tell you I easily got a erectile quality boost. Been on that for about 8 years.

That makes sense and was what I was thinking. Unfortunately, my primary care physician doesn’t feel the same way. I sent him a message through my chart yesterday, telling him my symptoms. His response was that Telmisartin doesn’t cause ED, and another drug would only make it worse. So there’s no need to try changing medications. His solution was stop taking daily Cialis, and take 20 mg when I wanna have sex. I guess I gotta find a new physician. The stupidity of some doctors blows my mind, and up until this point I thought I had a decent one.

you can always send him links on it.

His nurse responded today and said that we could look into other medication’s, but it might take a stronger dose of something else to keep my blood pressure low. I also know that 50 mg of losartan is equivalent to 40 mg of Telmisartin. I’m gonna give this another week, I don’t think things will improve, but I’ll give it a full month before I go and switch off to another ARB.

Well, a couple weeks later now, and a decent amount of the side effects have worn off. My libido is still mediocre, but I’m getting pretty decent nocturnal erections again. I’ve been somewhat fatigued since I started Telmisartin, but it’s not every day that I feel it. I’m also starting to get tired of trying to dial in my regiment to get decent libido and erections. The microdose of the AI is not really working like Deft has prescribed for me. Fluctuating too much up and down and I can’t hit any kind of consistency.

I’ve been on treatment for about 5 1/2 months, and outside of a few good weeks in August, libido and erections haven’t been good. Having low SHBG makes it more problematic. Strangely I see that defy sells Kyzatrex in their store for 1.85 for each 200 mg pill. I never knew they offered oral testosterone. I’m wondering if daily oral might be a better option for me.

I came back to this thread because my BP treatment and levels have been all over the place. My BP jumped back up on 40 mg of Telmisartan, so my doc added in 12.5 of hydrochlorothiazide and after about a month of it, I dumped it due to my systolic BP still being in the mid 130s and it starting to cause ED. My doc decided to ramp up the Telmisartan to 80 Mg a day to see if that would get me right. Problem with this dose is my diastolic was dropping to 70 and below and my systolic was hanging in the low 130s and high 120s at best. After about a week on that dose I could barely function with exhaustion and light headed feelings. I bumped it down to 60 to see if I could keep my systolic low enough and raise my diastolic back into the mid 70s and feel better. My readings have averaged high 130s over high 70s on this dose for the last few days. Even after taking 6 grams of citruline a 45 minute cardio workout and a 20 minute sauna, it dropped to 130/74 and 131/75.

Also four weeks ago, I dropped my weekly T dose from 100 ml a week to 84 a week. My libido is actually gotten a little better, and my mood and temper are much better at this dosage. My hope was that it would also bring my blood pressure down a little bit, but that hasn’t been the case.

Wondering if any of you guys have dealt with trying to drop your systolic BP when your diastolic BP is already low enough? I am due for six month labs in the middle of January, not sure if they will show anything or not. Again, my BP going up may be more result of my Covid in August than anything with my TRT regiment. Thanks in advance to anybody who has any suggestions?

Are you currently taking Cialis? If not, ask your Doc to prescribe you 5mg daily. Besides the erection benefits, it's very good for the prostate and helps to lower BP. Also, ask for a prescription of low dose Doxazosin (1-2 mg). This is another multi-purpose drug that is great for prostate and BP.

The synergy between the drugs really helps to bring BP down and the other added benefits are a real plus.

hydrochlorothiazide is notorious for causing ED symptoms. Try natural diuretics instead:

Also, give Olmsartan a try (Benicar). This has been the absolute best BP drug I have tried. Zero side effects and very effective.
