* Testosterone is surrounded by myths, expectations and fears. It is neither a universal fountain of youth nor simply a dangerous “doping hormone”. It is an essential hormone whose deficiency can have significant consequences—but diagnosis and treatment must always be based on symptoms, repeated biochemical assessment, the underlying cause and the individual patient’s situation.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been invited to two extensive podcast conversations about testosterone, men’s health, muscle metabolism and the often blurred line between medical treatment and doping. In my recent conversation with “Die gesunde Unterhaltung”, we spent more than two hours discussing questions that concern many people: What does testosterone actually do in the body? How can genuine testosterone deficiency be recognised? Why is a laboratory value alone never sufficient for a diagnosis? And where does evidence-based treatment end and potentially harmful performance enhancement begin?

An earlier conversation with the ERCM Podcast, “The Truth About Testosterone”, has now been viewed more than 103,000 times on YouTube. This extraordinary response has had a very tangible impact: patients from across Europe have contacted me and travelled to my practice after watching the episode.

I find this both humbling and encouraging. It shows how great the need is for reliable, differentiated and understandable medical information. Testosterone is surrounded by myths, expectations and fears. Podcasts offer something that short interviews and social-media posts often cannot: time. Time to explain complexity, correct misconceptions and openly discuss the limits of our knowledge. They allow endocrinology to leave the consultation room and become accessible to people who might otherwise never encounter this fascinating field of medicine. I am sincerely grateful to both podcast teams for their invitations, their curiosity and the space they gave to a serious and nuanced discussion. Above all, I am delighted that endocrinology—and with it a better understanding of hormones, metabolism and health—is achieving such a remarkable reach.
