Hey guys. I pinned this morning with a 27g 1/2" Easy Touch Insulin syringe in the vastus lateralis. Things went fine with the HCG (right leg), but with the test (left leg) I felt a little pain during the injection. Massaged it - went on about my day. At 5 pm I stood up and noticed my left leg was noticeably sore. Minor pain at the site of injection, but the more sever pain is referred distally above my knee. Not sure what went wrong. Anyone experience anything similar? I took some ibuprofin when I got home from work. Hopefully it subsides.

When I inject in my quads, I inject in the tensor fasciae latae muscle. Once I hit something that make my quad very sore for about 4 days. The way it felt, I thought it would have lasted much longer. The good part was, I still could do all workouts.

Thighs are the worst for me. Always at least some minor pain the next day. I do a lot better with glutes. It's a little awkward but not too bad. I generally just do a 30ga in the delts.

I agree, I like to inject in shoulders. :)

Vince, the femoral cutaneous and superior gluteal nerves run near there. I don't have to guts to pin that high with the neurovascular structures there....

I quit doing upper/outer many years ago. Now, I just inject upper/center. I sit in my computer chair, prop my leg up on an end table and go straight in/90 degrees with a 27g x 1 1/4". If this 8 1/2 x 11 pice of paper is accurate, from the middle of my knee cap I typically inject about 10-11" up, right in the middle of my thighs (I'm a shade over 6').

Never any pain in 10 years hitting theses sites. If I'm using HCG, I'll inject that just about anywhere as it's a 1/2" needle.

I'm pretty slim, so I like to flex my thigh and I all the different groups. I look at the top of tensor fasciae latae muscle and inject there. After I relax it.
I do the same thing with my shoulder and inject in the deltoid where it splits in two.

It's just the most convenient area for me to reach. I have broad shoulders/wide back and somewhat shorter arms, so reaching other places can be a chore. If I am totally relaxed I can only reach my anterior deltoid. I've always deployed the plunger using my thumb which would make injecting oil-based preps in my lateral deltoid risky (due to an unsteady arm straining to reach across my body).

I don't know if this would help. When I inject in my shoulders (my favorite place to inject) I always inject in front of the bathroom mirror. It makes it easy for me to see where I'm injecting.
