Oral T vs Injectable T - Hair Loss. Free Testosterone & SHBG

Oral T vs Injectable T - Hair Loss

I have read that oral T (Jatenzo/Kyzatrex) converts to DHT more than injectable T. Is this true? If so, would that mean that oral T would accelreate hair loss (for those predisposed) faster than injectable T? Or, would the constant higher T/DHT levels with injectable T nullify any difference between the two when it comes to hair loss? DHT elevation vs DHT duration.

Free Testosterone & SHBG

Is oral T superior to raising Free testosterone levels and lowering SHBG vs injectable T? I would assume injectable T would raise total T more, but this question is specific to Free T and SHBG.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Yes, higher DHT on orals versus injections. I don’t notice much of a difference between injections/orals as far as the slight thinning on the back of my head.

My thoughts exactly. If you use hematocrit and hemoglobin as an example, injections affects these parameters more than topicals and orals. My estrogen on orals is lower than with injections.

Maybe there’s an initial increase in DHT when testosterone is spiking, but not sustained like with injections, because on orals testosterone level declining quickly.

We know estrogen follows testosterone, the same is true for DHT. So a more consistent testosterone level (high normal trough) would produce a consistent level of DHT as well.

The half-life of DHT is 53 minutes, still longer than the half-life of testosterone at 34 minutes. The half-life of estrogen is 1-12 hours depending upon the livers clearance rate.

This seems to be the case for me on Jatenzo, my SHBG is between 18-24, same as on injections. The data shows oral testosterone decreases SHBG by 40%.

Thank you Systemlord! This is exactly the perspective I was looking for. Very helpful! I have low Free T and high SHBG so that's why I am trying Kyzatrex first. But I am getting some MPB so wanted some perspecitve on which delivery may exacerbate that more. Really appreciate it!

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
