Hey

I am a 57 year old male that has been on testosterone shots for over ten years. I take .6 every week. My primary doctor has asked me to start seeing an urologist and I had my first visit Monday. He did blood work, and the following were the levels that were an issue.
Platlets-107
LH and FHS-both less than .3%
PSA-5.5-My primary has been getting that checked twice a year since i started therapy and my level was 2.5 when I first started and has been around four as of my last physical two months ago. I did have sex the night before so maybe that was an issue.
Any thoughts in regards to these numbers and if I should have any other tests run?
I do not go back to the urologist until June 4th.

The Defy Medical TRT follow-up panel gives a good indication of what you should be looking at:

CBC, CMP-14, Lipid Panel, Testosterone,Free and Total, Estradiol Sensitive, DHEA-Sulfate, TSH, PSA, SHBG

There is little point in measuring LH and FSH, as TRT usually reduces these to low levels. Your PSA result is a concern and you should retest it soon, this time avoiding for 24 hours prior anything likely to irritate the prostate, such as sexual activity and bicycle riding.

How does your platelets measurement compare to previous values? Mine stays in the range of 100-150 x10E3/uL, below the reference range, but not appearing to suggest any underlying problems. If 107 is unusually low compared to your previous measurements then it should also be retested.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I did have my PSA blood work completed again and should have those results next week. I also do Peloton so maybe that was an issue as well. I will have to look back at my platelet number but i do know it has always been in the range.

Before having a PSA test, men should not have ejaculated during the previous 48 hours. Semen released during sexual activity can cause PSA levels to rise temporarily, which may affect the test results. For the same reason, before having a PSA test men should not have: exercised vigorously in the previous 48 hours.

Beyond Testosterone Book by Nelson Vergel
Geez, it almost seems like I could have written this. I’m 58. Similar time timeframe on TRT and starting PSA. Last PSA a few weeks ago was a little over 5 on labs done for an insurance policy. Highest it has been. I think my PSA test 6 months ago was 3.5. I have a visit with my primary doc coming up in a few weeks and I’ll see about repeating. Thinking back, I’m not 100% sure I had abstained for 48 hr prior to the draw. I didn’t know they were going to check PSA. I should have known. I’m wondering how @BenDavis came out on the retest. Hopefully good…
