Pros/Cons oral TU (51:24-57:12)

* one of the things that the orals have transformed is the concept that you have to have a continually high level of testosterone to get the benefits and clearly that's not true and the safety profile seems to be improved by having levels that fluctuate some during the day returning to close to or even baseline

* you only need testosterone levels up for about 4-6 hrs in the day to produce an effect which works through the androgen receptor, the androgen receptor is present in every cell in the body so its not just a sex hormone it is a health hormone

Sure increasing it for a few hours per day is better than not raising levels at all, but that’s not to say it’s as good as having higher levels for longer periods of time. And before you freak out, I’m not saying more is always better. I’m just saying that plenty of guys see tons of benefits while having consistently raised levels and they do so in a safe way. I’ve shared studies here before that show around 125 mg/week is a good sweet spot where a large percentage of men see significant benefits while minimizing the amount of risk they introduce.

Muscle and bone mass are clearly beneficial for good health, and higher levels seen from injectable will almost certainly perform better on this front than oral testosterone. This is likely true with lots of the other aspects testosterone helps with. Plus, there are literally decades worth of data for it. That’s not the case for oral. For example, some people see huge leaps in hematocrit on oral… as far as I know we have no idea how to determine which patients this will likely occur in. We don’t know how years of use will impact the digestive system(even in ones who don’t get GI issues from oral T, which is significant percentage).

So there are plenty of things we don’t really know when it comes to oral. For a guy with low T, is oral better than nothing at all? Very likely. Is it better than injectable? Quite unlikely? Is it safer for most guys? Short term yes, though again plenty get issues from it. Long term, we don’t really know, but I’d say probably. For the guys who do see improved safety profile, does that come at the expense of increased benefits(in other words safer but less beneficial)? In most instances this is very likely the case.

So no, I don’t think we’re anywhere near a point where we can claim oral is better than injectable.
