Is Omega 3 an AR killer??

AI review
Clinical studies on DHA and prostate cancer
  • Investigational drug trials: A Phase II trial studied a DHA-paclitaxel compound for treating metastatic, hormone-refractory prostate cancer to determine its effectiveness and impact on overall survival and quality of life.
  • Dietary and supplement interventions:
    • Mixed dietary results: Research has reported inconsistent findings regarding the effects of omega-3s on prostate cancer. Some observational studies show a link between higher fish consumption and lower prostate cancer mortality, while others have raised concerns about high omega-3 levels and cancer risk.
  • Pre-surgery supplement trial: Another Phase IIb trial investigated a highly concentrated EPA supplement (a different omega-3 fatty acid) given before prostatectomy. It found that while tissue EPA levels increased, there was no significant reduction in the Ki-67 proliferation index compared to placebo.

  • Possible mechanisms: It is thought that omega-3s may help by reducing inflammation, which is a factor in cancer development and progression. Omega-3s can also slow the growth and division of cancer cells in lab settings.

Does DHA inhibit androgen receptors or mRNA??
Interesting question, where did you get the idea to ask it?

Here is an interesting rat study, a bit off your question but still relative:

5. Conclusions

The present study revealed for the first time the potential effects of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs on the levels of various adipokines in the male reproductive system. Both omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs negatively influence the male reproductive function via inhibition of the kisspeptin-GnRH signaling pathway. The consumption of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs triggers anti-inflammatory properties via upregulation of apelin, adiponectin, irisin, and IL-10 and downregulation of leptin, resistin, visfatin, prostaglandins, and NF-κB and its downstream elements (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α). Moreover, both omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs ameliorate the testicular antioxidant status by scavenging ROS via increasing the levels of enzymes in the endogenous antioxidant system (SOD, CAT, and GPx).

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
