Hi, I am a 53 yr old male who is interested in having my T levels checked for the first time. I need guidance as exactly what test(s) I should get. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you just running the test for yourself or is a doctor going to order them for you?

Welcome to Excelmale. An initial testing panel should include, total and free testosterone, SHBG, CBC, CMP, Estradiol (Sensitive, LC, MS/MS), TSH, FT3, FT4, RT3, TPO, TGAb, DHT, DHEA, PSA. If your doctor is unwilling to test deeply, you can self-test (all work run through LabCorp) at www.discountedlabs.com (many of us use this service regularly). Feel free to pose any questions. We hope you'll be an active member.

Thanks for the quick reply CoastWatcher.
Your reply the most welcomed at this stage.
Your description is good about the various tests that I have to undergo.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
