Bigger guys require bigger dosages?

I've read multiple times and seen multiple anectodal stories of bigger guys requiring bigger doses of test, is this true? I've also seen that the opposite is true. Smaller guys requiring less. I think I might be seeing it with myself to be honest.

For example, I'm 5'5” 135lbs 31 Y/O and my first TRT protocol had my total test at 1855 at trough. So I think there might be some truth to this. I'm on EOD injections, so my trough isn't going to fluctuate much from my peak.

First Protocol:
105mg Empower pharmacy Test/ week total. Split into EOD injections. (28mg EOD)

1,000iu's Pregnyl HCG/ week total. Split into EOD injections. (270iu EOD)

No AI.

SHBG - 44 (10-50)

Total test - 1855 (250-1100)

Labs were drawn in the morning right before my injections

Hope you are not running a 1855 ng/dl total as that is extremely high!

I would say the dose of testosterone one needs comes down to - sensitivity of the AR (androgen receptor), shbg levels, polymorphism of the AR and CAG repeat length (short/long) /body chemistry.

As far as body size if one is using high doses (300-600mg/week) of testosterone to obtain supra-physiological levels in order to pack on muscle than I would think yes in order to maintain that level of muscle mass beyond ones natural genetic potential as there be more AR receptors available in the newly acquired muscle mass.

As far as using testosterone in replacement doses (100-150mg/week) for trt than I would say no as one is just replacing physiological levels.

Hard to believe you were hitting a 1855 total t which is way too high and I would say that level is a result of the added pharmaceutical grade PREGNYL HCG used with the testosterone.

In order to truly see how a specific dose of testosterone effects ones total t/free t and e2 levels testosterone would have to be used solo without quality HCG and than have blood work done.

As adding any hcg to a testosterone protocol is going to skew the testosterone numbers!

With an SHBG such as 44 I'm not too surprised by the TT, but then note the absence of a FT value there...probably quite low, below lab range. Too, if you're *secondary* Hypo you could be getting a fair amount of Endo T with HCG use. If Primary that would be rather moot, any endo T production thru HCG use.
But that's total bunk...size/weight and Test dosing etc etc

You are spot on Madman. The Pregnyl 100% increased my numbers more than 1000iu's/ week would of some other sources of HCG. When I was on 2000iu's/ week of Pregnyl monotherapy, my test came back around 1200, on 2 separate tests spaced 4 months apart. And when on 1000iu's/ week monotherapy I hit around 600. So Pregnyl is extremely consistent for me. So I don't think it's crazy to think 1000iu's of Pregnyl per week alongside my testosterone dose added 600 points to my total on that test. So without HCG I would probably be around 1255.

I would put money on the fact that HCG would boost men's testosterone levels a lot higher if they used pharmaceutical grade HCG. That's been my experience at least, verified by multiple blood tests and multiple different forms of HCG.

And no I dropped down a bit recently. Still high total at 1687. Free test is only top of the range due to high SHBG. That was while on 105mg test and 800iu HCG per week. Since then I've dropped my test down to 100mg per week. I would drop it more but Pregnyl has been discontinued recently and i'm starting on Empower HCG. So it's probably not gonna increase my total T as much as Pregnyl. So gonna do 100mg test and 800iu HCG per week and see how my blood work looks in a couple months.

Haha definitely could of been stories from steroid forums. But I was using anectedoal stories of blood work results, not whether they needed more test to get bigger or anything. Just things I’ve read about bigger guys using TRT doses and needing on the higher end when they were bigger to get testosterone blood results to healthy ranges.

Ya exactly. I've used Pregnyl (pharmaceutical brand), and I've used compounding pharmacy brands such as APS, United pharmacy and Empower. Pregnyl has always given me extremely consistent and good results as far as boosting total T. I've used and tested while on HCG monotherapy with both APS and United pharmacy and here were the results compared to Pregnyl. All on 2,000iu's/ week monotherapy

Pregnyl - 1185 + 1193. Two different tests 4 months apart
United Pharmacy - 559
APS - 348

I used Empower for less than a month when I started with Defy, but never got blood work done while on Empower's HCG. After a month I ended up switching to Pregnyl when I realized I could get it for $104 with a goodrx coupon. The only thing I noticed when switching from empower to Pregnyl was that my testicles got a little bigger on the same dose.

I think you guys are probably right. Was just curious to hear from some EM members and see if this was a factor or not. It's probably safe to say it isn't. Me having such high testosterone numbers on 100mg/ test and 800iu/ HCG per week is probably a combo of my high SHBG and testosterone lingering in my system vs getting excreted quickly, and using Pregnyl HCG which might be a little more potent/ effective than other sources of HCG.

Me being on the smaller side at 5'5" 135lbs and responding to testosterone/ HCG like this is probably just a coincidence as far as the whole size thing goes. Just thought if the myth that bigger guys need more testosterone was true, it would mean smaller guys need less to hit good numbers. But again, I think it's just coincidence.
