Progesterone

Works better in what way(s)?

So far it’s going fine. 5mg is a super low dose, so probably don’t notice much bad or good. Slept fine, and feel about the same today. If I don’t notice any differences after a week I’ll bump it up to 10mg, either in the evening or before bed. Curious why it works better for u taking it in the evening

I believe if I take it with dinner it has more a sedating effect, really mild have to say, compared to take it later at night before bed. I believe someone mentioned how taking it with fat may be different then empty stomach. Not sure, perhaps taking it early enough gives me the chance to see what it does

Any truth to this guys comment? Would injectable progesterone still convert to allopregnanolone, or is that just with oral or transdermal progesterone?

Also, for those here using injectable progesterone, have u noticed a decrease in libido or erection quality?

Oral is probably the best to be converted into allopregnenolone. I remember seeing a post on peaktestosterone how progesterone increased sex drive in those who were deficient

I love pregnenolone. Haven't had my progesterone tested but I know I like how it feels. DHEA neve made me feel very good. Kinda grumpy or moody.
Here in my country Brazil pregnenolone is prohibited. Would anyone know what substance they could use to replace pregnenolone? Thank you

Seems my progesterone of 0.2-0.3 ng/ml is not on the high, but on the low end, although the range in my lab is up to 0.15ng/ml. According to the TRT specialist oveerseas Im consulting my values are low possible caused by the liver issues. This is what I have also found:

"The reference range for progesterone levels in adult men is 0.13–0.97 ng/ml12. Zumoff and colleagues13 reported a mean serum progesterone level of 0.18+0.03 ng/ml for men (n= 7) and of 0.21+0.05 ng/ml for young women in the follicular phase (n=8)."

What symptoms of low progesterone do you experience?

@Cataceous @JA Battle I’m curious, how did u guys figure out that around 0.6-1.2mg/ day was a proper dose of progesterone for a male?

Received my injectable progesterone from Empower today and it’s in oil and is 100mg/ml. 0.6mg is such a tiny dose. I had to go get 3/10 cc insulin syringes to draw up such a small dose. Even with those it ends up being like no oil. I ended up drawing to the very first unit line and injecting that. Which would be around 1mg. Even at 1mg/ day this 10ml vial is going to last me almost 3 years lol. Why is it made in such a high concentration if such a tiny dose is needed. Is the dose for females much higher, and they just figure that mostly women are going to be the ones needing injectable progesterone?

I used lab work to titrate my dose so that I'd be mid-range.

I dilute the progesterone from 100 mg/mL to 20 mg/mL. Then each half-unit mark on the 3/10 cc syringe is 100 mcg, which is as much precision as I need.

I have to order some more 3/10 cc syringes, the ones I have now I just grabbed at my local pharmacy, but were pretty expensive compared to buying online. Would u mind linking the ones u bought?

Also, as far as syringes go, is 3/10 cc the most precise insulin syringe available that ur aware of? I quickly looked up syringes yesterday, and 3/10 cc was the most precise syringe I saw available, as far as measuring small amounts of liquid go.

I get my syringes at the Sam's Club pharmacy, $12 per 100. They are Easy Touch rebranded as Members Mark.

As far as I know 3/10 cc insulin syringes are the highest precision that is widely available and inexpensive.

Do u guys know if injectable progesterone still converts into allopregnanolone?

Does the form of progesterone taken effect what it converts into? For example, does oral, transdermal, sublingual, and injectable progesterone all convert into different things, or does it not matter and once the progesterone is in ur system it will convert to the same things?

hey gman, sorry I’ve been busy lately. It certainly does as it interacts with 5ar as injected testosterone does. Transdermal would be the most in my opinion as 5ar is abundant in skin (especially scrotal skin). I believe there are a 2 variants to dht. There is a type that the liver mostly produces and the rest of the peripheral tissues convert to the type we are used to talking about. I read about this somewhere but I forgot where! So presumably orally might convert heavily but I’m not certain it acts very systemically. So I would assume the same for progesterone.
Prior to progesterone usage at .6mg daily my level was .4 on the 0-0.5 range. 0.6 daily brought my level up to .8 at trough and .9 four hours after injecting. So it seemed it raised my levels across the board.

disclaimer: I would not guarantee such stable levels if you dilute it differently than I did. I had mine mixed up with my other hormones and injected IM into quad. The total volume of grapeseed oil was .26ml. You could heavily dilute it if you are looking for stable blood levels with a bigger slower absorbing shot. Smaller injection may absorb and metabolize faster.

Very cool. How do you go about doing the dilution?

I have PMs ongoing with another member on this subject, so I'll just quote myself from them. The conversation is referring to ampules from AllDayChemist, but I'd do something similar with vials obtained domestically, except no need for filter needles.

"In more detail: I use a filter needle and luer-lock syringe to withdraw the progesterone from an opened ampule. I change to a regular needle and inject the progesterone into a new sterile vial. To the vial I add benzyl alcohol and grape seed oil to reduce the concentration from 100 mg/mL to 20 mg/mL. For administration I use 0.3 cc, 31 gauge, 5/16" insulin syringes."
...
"I bought the 2 mL ampules, which per mL are said to contain 100 mg progesterone, 200 mg benzyl alcohol, and ethyl oleate to complete the milliliter. If the contents of one ampule were transferred to a 10 mL sterile vial then you would add 1.54 mL of benzyl alcohol and 6.46 mL of grape seed oil to the vial to reduce the concentration to 20 mg/mL progesterone (10 mL total product with 200 mg progesterone and 2,000 mg benzyl alcohol). I don't know if the benzyl alcohol concentration really needs to be as high as in the original product. It's good practice to divide the results into a few vials so that you're not using any one vial for too long of a period, e.g. more than a couple months or so."

I mentioned possible suppliers of the ancillaries: Med Lab Supply, Tex Lab Supply

For uniformity you could buy and use ethyl oleate as the diluent. This is what I did originally. But then I decided I'd rather not be taking more EO than necessary, so I switched to grape seed oil, which seems to work just as well.

Awesome thanks a bunch! Was just watching a quick video of a guy going over his opinions on progesterone levels in men. He likes to see men around 1.2. He says that if they’re anything less than 0.9, and have a few symptoms of low progesterone, he treats them with exogenous progesterone. Here’s the vid.

The compounded progesterone that I have from empower is in grape seed oil and is 100mg/ml. I’ve been doing 1mg before bed subQ in my stomach fat for the past 2 nights. Havent noticed anything yet, but will stick to 1mg for a bit. I wanted to start with 0.6mg/ day, but with the vial I have being such a high concentration, it’s just tough to draw up less than 1mg. To get the 1mg I’m drawing up to the very first unit line on a 3/10 cc insulin syringe. It already feels like I’m injecting basically no liquid

Interesting video I tried prog alone a few times. Not a huge difference in how I felt. Funny how he talks about chronic pain and lower prog levels. When I start trt my pain actually gets better in the first few months. Then it gets worse then before trt. I should try prog with my trt. Maybe it will also help with depression that is starting to creep in from being on trt ..

Ya theoretically there’s a chance that what u experienced was the benefits of testosterone while concurrently still having some endogenous progesterone production, and then possibly things got worse once the test shut down ur testicles and therefore possibly shut down most of ur endogenous progesterone production. Here’s a few more quick vids on progesterone that I found interesting and that u might find helpful

I've actually watched those vids. Those guys have interesting view. The guy Leo isn't very pro trt. Just like a lot of the guys on the ray peat forums. I've always have had my doubts about trt especially because I have struggled to feel good on it and feel it does cause mental sides for me. That said it improves some very important things for me. Like sex drive, night woods, recovery from workouts/dieting stress and bouts of hypoglycemic like issues. Although all my lab work and even home glucose meter was perfectly fine. Off trt I would have to eat every 3 hours or I would get super weak and dizzy.

Any way I have plenty of progest -e and low dose prog cream at the house I can try and see if it helps or I might have to come off trt again because the depression really sucks. And Ive never had it in my life except when on trt

Ya it’s so interesting how TRT can effect everyone differently. It’s literally been the best antidepressant imagineable for me. Legit not one negative thought ever gets into my mind ever. Not one depressed thought ever. Eternal optimist 24/7 since being on HRT. I hate that it can do this for me, yet have the complete opposite effect on depression for u. I wish it was as easy as u take testosterone, raise ur levels, and it has the exact same positive effects for every guy alive. I hate seeing guys struggle on HRT, and hate even more when they’re at their wits end and just want to give up on it. I’m sure u’ve exhausted every last thing u can think of to make HRT work for u, but if u ever wanted to trouble shoot and brainstorm together feel free to PM me
