I was on testosterone therapy for 5 weeks. 100ml of cypinate) a week. Have now stopped. What recovery issues am I facing?

Injections or transdermal?

If transdermal you may be completely HPTA suppressed as it take about two weeks for testosterone serum levels to stabilize.

If injections it takes about 6 weeks so you may re-start on your own.

Nevertheless, you need to have LH/FSH tested a few weeks after you stopped to see if these hormones are back to "normalized" levels.

IF not, you need to get on a re-start protocol sooner then later.

The only way you can tell if you are restarted is through blood work.

You need to look at LH and FSH production as well as Testosterone levels as these will tell you if you are producing on your own.

Four to 6 weeks after you stopped your protocol.

Did you take HCG during the time you were supplementing with Testosterone?

No. I had a doctor recommend the trt for borderline low testosterone and I should have done more research on it. Was not feeling bad or anything else, he just did not inform me it would be for the rest of my life and that is not a commitment I want to make.

So what I am reading seems to say that I am virtually assured of hpta shutdown after five weeks of injections. That sucks. Would not have even started if I knew that. Now, I am really bummed out. Will make an appointment with an endo first of next week.

One more question at 60, how difficult is it to restart my own system?

HPTA suppression is different in all men on TRT but how the negative feedback loop works is that HPTA is suppressed almost from the time you start Testosterone supplementation because the body senses the elevated levels and reacts by suppressing HPTA...it's just how hormonal loops work.

Younger guys can usually get re-started faster and with better predictability as they have more receptors on their leydig cells. As we age, HPTA slows on it's own (internal age clock) and we lose more receptors on our leydig cells so re-starts can take longer with results not as good as younger guys.

You need to get LH/FSH tested; if the values are low (even within the normal range) it's usually a sign that you need a re-start protocol.

If you were taking HCG along with your Testosterone re-starts are much easier and sometimes can happen on their own.

You were on your Testosterone for a short time so I would be optimistic.

Question for you; with all the tremendous health benefits by adding Testosterone as one ages why don't you stick with it and enjoy all the health benefits?

If you read here within the forum all the health benefits to having healthy youthful levels of Testosterone can do for you I am surprised you seem so dead against it.

Testosterone does not tax the liver. You are thinking of oral supplementation and those days are long gone.

You brush your teeth everyday is that daunting?

So what's the big deal with one injection per week versus the incredible return on the health benefits and the fact that most men with healthy testosterone levels generally live 10 years longer than those with suppressed levels.

BTW, TRT will have a very positive impact on your high cholesterol as well.

I am attempting to find a knowledgeable endo doctor that wants to do more than sell testosterone and get all my questions answered about treatment and my unique medical history and if it makes sense, I will go back on treatment. Should have done it that way to begin with but fell into the trap of...hell, he is a doctor and knows best.

i did like they way I felt on the meds but need to see what all I really need to be doing. Sounds like a lot of people on this site use more than just testosterone and I need all that info.

The best Doctor's to find are those practicing Anti Aging medicine and who are members of the American Academy for Anti Aging Medicine. Look for someone in your area who specializes in Anti Aging medicine and who has similar credentials and you will be cared for correctly.

The two main staples to TRT for men are simple actually:

1. Testosterone
2. HCG
3. Aromatase Inhibitor (when required)

There are also many supplements that you can take on top of this for further enhancements.

I like DHEA and Pregnenelone to back-fill the pathways when on TRT (and many TRT Docs order the same).

This forum if filled with all the information you need to educate yourself on TRT.

Or, you can buy Nelson's book here and use that as your starting point which I HIGHLY recommend.
