New Posts feature

I routinely use the New Posts feature. However, I do not have time to review all the new posts made and would like to go back and review them later. The problem with this feature is that the forum software marks all threads with new posts as 'not new' after you click on the feature, regardless of whether you actually visited the threads with new posts. Is there some setting to change this behavior or it's imbedded in the software?
