Nelson Vergel was born on 12 February 1959 in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Professional Career in Engineering
Vergel started his career in 1982 when he joined the Venezuelan oil company Lagoven as a process engineer. He worked for over three years at this firm, during which he was responsible for the design, start-up, and maintenance supervision activities of 14 secondary offshore oil recovery water injection plants in Lake Maracaibo. HIV Diagnosis and Transformation
Arriving in the United States as a young immigrant from Venezuela in 1984, I bore not only aspirations for a brighter future but also the overwhelming fear of a virus that I heard about in the news as soon as I arrived.
