Hi all, I have been looking into Proviron as of late as I have been experiencing lower than normal libido. I dabbled with low dose testosterone cycles over the past few years as my test levels indicated low normal. I am currently not taking anything and haven't for a few months now. I really don't want to restart testosterone as I find the sides outweigh the benefits. My sense of well-being, energy, libido etc is initially very elevated but wanes after about six weeks then I just feel, for lack of a better word...shitty. I am 54, fit, active, currently Keto (for the last month), 165lbs, 14% body fat. I am just wondering what a proviron only cycle would do for libido, body composition, well-being etc. Does it shut down the HPTA as testosterone does? Are there any lasting nasty side effects? I have researched it online and as usual there is much conflicting information. Some say it can't be used by itself, some say it is very effective on it's own....I am awaiting blood work results which may dictate an actual physician guided trt protocol, but like I said above, the side effects of testosterone therapy make me wary of starting. I very much appreciate any info provided. Thanks

I have been reading papers about proviron lately and I honestly wish I would have known about it before I started TRT. At that time because of working and studing plus more stressing situations I was hardly slepping 4 hours at night for several months , that was with 47 years old, I ended having low T simptoms and near to fail to reach my goals cause of lack of energy, when tested, total T was 369 ng/dl, I started TRT and sevaral months later when muy life was easier, I failed to come off and so happen every time I try to come off, now on trt for 6 years and still wishing to come off, especially cause I have a new very young wife (may be result of TRT... lol) and planning to father again.

I would try Proviron in your case, cause it enhance libido and fertility, being DHT derivative, androgenic, but don't aromatize so don't produce E2 and do increase your own free T by preferently binding to SHBG. In other hand It has been found to have no significant inhibitory effect on HPTA when dose is below 150 mg a day.

Downside is it will elevate colesterol, also may be not so effective long term, but I think for your situation or the situation I had before TRT, It can help to aminorate symtoms, gain some time to fix your life style and any other health issue and then stop proviron without imparing your own testosterone production.

Anyway, I also think that if you are about to be low T because of your age, AAS use or anything else, eventually you will have to land on TRT...

if you feel ok when starting TRT but then shitty after 6 weeks on it, then you need is to have lab work done and see your numbers, I guess you have being on cypinate T, it reach steady state at about 6 weeks from the first dose, so at that point may be you need to fix your protocol (not to stop, not to change anything if you don't know first what is wrong), you probably would need to change your T dose, or may be you need to control E2 levels with some Aromatase inhibitor, etc.

Just like some men are heavy aromatizers and some aren't, some men seem to thrive on DHT-like compounds and some don't. I haven't heard of any way to tell other than by experimenting. It might make sense to take a low (12 mg Every other Day) dose of clomid while you do to prevent/reduce any suppression. Also, if you can get DHEA, I would try it as well. It seems to have almost as big an affect as T for me. The good news is that if you initially feel well on TRT then you have a sweet-spot that works for you, you just need to find out where it is and not overshoot.

I think the proviron is a decent idea. It was to treat hypogonadism. I've heard some good experiences for it and its not supposed to shut you down. Eager to hear how it goes if you try it.

Yeah, I'm just wondering about the proper dosage and how long it can be used for without causing any issues...I know some guys use it along with other compounds during cycles...but I would just be using it by itself

Actually, I have been having the temptation, (if proviron were able by itself of giving me libido, wellbeing sensation, proper erectil function, and good mood), to use it to try to come off TRT, since it is almost not supresive to HPTA at usual doses.
It is true the recovery would be slower, but doesn't matter, I don't care to be 1 year recovering if I feel ok in the mean time... since the reason I fail is cause I can't deal with the crash. Clomid is not very helpfull to me because kills 100% my libido. Anyway, after 6 years on TRT and 53 y/o, I am not likely to have a good recovery eventually

I initially started clomid but then stopped for a period as I had blood work coming up. I recently started again at a low dose (12.5 MWF). I know from what I've read that higher doses can wreak havoc on emotions and libido so hopefully this low dose may edge more on the positive effects. When I did take testosterone it was for no more than a couple of months here and there over the last three years and at a lower dose (75mg to 100mg weekly). The proviron is intriguing...I already have it in my "cart"...just haven't hit submit order yet lol

I am curious about it, if you start it, please, keep us informed, I would like to know how you feel on it and also if possible your labs numbers before and after Proviron, if you get to have them.
it comes as 25 mg pills, I'd advise to take 50 to 75 mg a day to begin with, then adjust as necessary, never more than 150 mg a day to avoid HPTA suppresion, the less you need, the better. You will need to keep an eye on your lipid profile.

This is the first I have ever thought of a clomid and proviron combo. That seems like a decent damn idea. You could try enclomiphene if you can get your hands on it.

I haven't looked into it too much but I am sure we could find clinical literature specifying dosages for hypogonadism.

There are many articles about proviron, just google it, most of them are dated in the 70's, 80's, 90's and talk about its use to improve fertility, also indicated for depressive disorders. It is currently covered by public health systems in countries such as Spain, and the indications basically include subfertility, late-onset hypogonadism, mild erectile disorders... The average doses are: for fertility Start 25 mg three times a day for about 3 months, then 25 mg twice a day. For hypogonadism: 25 - 50 mg three times a day. It is not designed for long-term or permanent treatment. There are testimonials that results can fade or be unstable over time.

Yes, I have also thought about that combination, it sounds interesting. I did a research on the internet and there are TRT clinics where that combination is discouraged, they don't say why.

They say: "We do not advocate the use of Clomiphene (Clomid) or HCG monotherapy, nor experimental combinations of Clomiphene, Mesterolone (Proviron) and DHEA to ‘boost’ your system."

I was on TRT for about a year with little positive effects. I was trying it to increase my libido and cure my ED. What I realized is that I don't have an ED problem, I have a LOW LIBIDO problem. When my libido is high everything works as it should. I tried ED medications but they only cured the symptom not the cause.
I just recently discovered the existence of Proviron. I've read many reviews that state it does indeed increase libido. I have some on order and will be taking it soon.

I would appreciate it if you could keep us informed on how it works for you.

Regarding the fact that the problem is low libido and not erectile dysfunction, I can say that the same thing happened to me before I started TRT. If I had libido, rock boner was guaranteed, if no libido then ED. But that changed after TRT, now libido and erections are not necessarily related, sometimes I might have desperately strong libido but my friend doesn't want to play so I need cialis. That's one of the things that lets me down on trt.

Why would that be? What is too high or too low to cause this? Can DHT levels that are too high cause poor EQ?

What about doing life correct and seeing a specialist?
No such thing as a cycle with trt, you are on it for life. Doctors and blood tests are how you feel good always.

Beyond Testosterone Book by Nelson Vergel
I've had decent success with Proviron for libido but my issue is with its short half-life of 12 hours which causes lots of ups and downs.

At the higher doses (50mg onwards) I can literally go from low E2 symptoms to feeling horny/euphoric to high E2 symptoms... within the same day!

On a side note, if anyone has advice on how to reduce "sensitivity" to E2 flux I would highly appreciate it.
