I am going on 11 months of injecting, and I am still having major water retention. I am drivinb myself crazy on finding a fix for this. I beleive if I was going to normalize the water weight it would have happened by now.
One post I have come across from a mens clinic in Washington states that some men suffer from water retention soley based on T-Cyp. When switched to a transdermal the water weight goes away. Why would this be? Is it due to the long ester, and if so would T-Prop have a different result? I am wanting to stay with injections due to cost.

My TRT doctor suggested we try going with grape seed oil as I might be allergic to cotton seed oil. Could an allergy to cottonseed oil cause water retention?

I also saw Nelsons post on how water retention could be based off of 11 beta HSD 2 being inhibited, what is the appropriate test to determine this? I just had my Aldosterone checked, and it came back in range.

My freeT and T are in range at the top, same with E free E. Low SHBG. I was on Andro gel for a year and I never had water retention. When I was on Andro gel I was in the best shape since I was 30.

I appreciate all comments.

exogenous injectable testosterone does cause water retention regardless of e2 level
you can be lean and have dry physique with low estrogen but bloated in face on injectable T lol
using AI to counter this will make you feel like shit because it's not estrogen that causes this

and the cure is? I am talking 10+ pounds

I think you have a bit of a unique issue there. I’m assuming you have tried things like increasing water consumption.

Guys that blast large doses will swear the shorter esters cause less water retention. Seems worth trying.
Yes I drink lots of water. Its not fat, I watch my abdomen expand as the day goes on. I must not be that unique, I found this but it is the only lead i have found on the issue.

Per Innovative Health "This medication can cause your body to hold on to extra body water (edema). Some men experience this with testosterone injections and there are ways to address this as it is due to either too much estrogen or from the cypionate. Generally, switching to topical testosterone will resolve this issue."

I was wondering if a shorter ester chain would make a difference. I was hesitant to try it after reading Vinces daily T-Prop thread, but... why is it that T-Cyp is prefered, the longer half life right? Andro gel has a half life of 9-22 hrs.

HCG exacerbates the problem, and really starts to pack it on.

i would try prop every other day or even better every day shots (or topical testo but I don't have much experience with them) but it will require a total re dialing in protocol from the scratch as prop is more potent mg per mg and much shorter half life you will need to learn how to use it

Your daily T dose is on the high side. Testosterone itself can cause water retention (estradiol alone is not the only culprit). What is your TT and FT? If you drop your dose water retention might go away. You went from 182g to 140g a week did you notice any improvement? Depending on your TT FT levels you might have room to lower your dose even more. The thing with topicals is that rarely someone achieves really high TT FT levels while on topicals and that by itself helps with water retention. A lot of the issues/side effects that come with TRT can be resolved solely by using a lower dose and having your hormone levels not too high (but optimized). More is not better and the key is balance.

Vince my SHBG has been in the teens since Jan 1, I dropped my T from 26mg/D to 20mg/D and iSHBG came up to 26, my E ultra is at 15, free .34
You could still be on the E cycle as it were, as was asked too about your FT? If you could drop some labs it would eliminate this back and forth about your numbers. I think a little more tuning on you and your Dr's part before you blow it all up and switch to topical, which we know has it's own problems.

What’s the difference between androgel and compounded cream? I would have thought they’re the same but never tried either.

Given the SHBG I do not see your E as being too low, your Free Estradiol is still in the trough pretty close to upper lab range which means your peak is X amount above that. Remember that is your absolute low point and isn't static there. The change in your SHBG value is kind of small.
Though elevated E has a water retention aspect to it I'm not sure how you deal with it given where your numbers are.
I'd honestly say a little lower on Free Estradiol. I'm doing the best that I have been with my LC/MS/MS <5 and my SHBG was 12 at last test.

Just to clarify, The reason you are not worried about such low e2 is because you are testing free e2 and that is showing a good number?

Beyond Testosterone Book by Nelson Vergel
I would like to know why some men do suffer from water retention on Cyp, and why putting them on topical clears it up. I am hoping someone on here has a history of it, is there a chance it is the long ester? T Prop might mimic Andro gel more.
I have had my T well abovethe reference range with E in the high 5o's, and no water retention. Why do I have to be a unicorn!
