Anastrozole question

Hello,

I had a quick question. I’ve been doing TRT for 9 months. Weekly injections of .07 for T. 20 for HCG.

My main question is : the doc had me on 1.5 of Anastrozole a week. My last blood test, apparently my estrogen score was 0.

Not only am I concerned. I’m now realizing that he had me on a very high dose and I do not exhibit high estrogen levels.

I’m now on my first week off of T. I’m considering stopping therapy all together or at least finding a competent doctor.

Should I continue taking HCG during this time off to prevent crashing ?

Thank you.
Aaron.

Hi Aaron, welcome to the forum.

It is really hard to give any credible advise based on very limited information. If you could post that last blood test we could give you much better guidance. If you do post them, remove your personal information (name, address, etc).

1.5 mg of anastrozole is a huge dose for anyone and it is good that you stopped it.

I am thinking there was a reason you were on testosterone therapy and so getting off of it might not be wise. However, finding a new doctor would be wise that will set up a proper protocol for you. It's likely y ou should have never been prescribed a dose of anastrozole like that based on the testosterone dose and HCG you were taking. Possible, but not likely.

You say your Estrogen was "0" on the last test. Does it say "Estrogens" or "Estradiol"? It is possible that that amount of anastrozole crashed you. If it is zero, technically you have already crashed. I am surprised you do not feel absolutely terrible. It won't hurt to take the HCG by itself. If you are primary hypogonadism it won;t do much for you but if you are secondary hypogonadism it may help a little bit. You dose is pretty small.

We'd like to give you better guidance but we have little info to work with.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I’m not sure if the blood test was a zero for Estrogens or Estradiol. I will call the clinic this week. I think the most disturbing possible side effect is some strange injuries that I’ve had recently. In particular my neck has a pinched nerve which is taking unusually long to heal. I’ve also had much lower strength and a shoulder injury as well.

I’m on testosterone therapy because my initial test was 420. I’m 38 years old. I was feeling really great initially. I am definitely going to search for another doctor and explore other protocols.

My current doc told me to reduce my anastrozole to .5 mg a week. I haven’t touched it since. I’ve lost some confidence in his recommendations. It seems to me maybe .25 a week is where I should start.

This leaves one other question I had : what is your opinion on cycling testosterone or taking “breaks”. Is it good to take a month off every now and then ? I’m looking to start in about a week which will be 3 weeks off. I’m not sure if this is smart or not.

Thank you,
Aaron.

There's no reason to take a break from TRT, that is borrowed from those who abuse testosterone and want to keep their HPTA from being permanently damaged, yours is already damaged which is why you're on TRT.

Starting and stopping TRT every month would be pure hell and would be considered self torture. These clinics or T-mills are bad news and over prescribe anastrozole so it's no surprise estrogen is zero.

Normally AI's are taken twice weekly do to the 2 day half life, by weeks end it cleared out of your system and no longer blocking estrogen.

Why were you taking anastrozole in the first place? If you did not have symptoms nor the correct estradiol sensitive LC/MS/MS test documenting high levels, you probably should have never started.

Sounds like your doc may have initiated a one size fits none treatment.

That’s a great point, I need to find a new doctor and start a different protocol.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what a normal HCG dose is ? I’m currently doing 20 units (.2) twice a week. Monday and thur.

I’ve been thinking of splitting my T dose (.7) and injecting 3.5 twice a week (instead of once ) along w the .2 I’ve been doing for HCG.

Obviously I need to talk to another doc as well.

Aaron, do you know what your SHBG is? That normally indicates which injection protocol might work best for you?

No. I don’t know what my SHBG is. Yet another thing my doctor never talked about. I guess my first step is to find a new doctor/clinic. It would be helpful if I could work w someone or a company remotely since I travel all the time.
I’ll have to find something.

Have you considered Defy Medical or Prime Body? Both provide tele-med services (long distance), both are sponsors to the forum, and both have representatives of their practice on the forum. Many members of the forum utilize their services.

The majority of doctors out there know almost nothing about TRT or proper testing or even how to interpret the labs. They only see numbers "in range" or "out of range" without ever understanding what these individual tests mean.

In only a few hours you will know more than your doctors does about TRT, almost no time in medical school is spent on hormones and it shows.

Now you have to school your doctor on how to properly treat you, it's crazy I tell you!

Be careful of these TRT clinics popping up, they are bad news!

There are a lot here who are with Defy Medical, me included. They are the best.

HCG is in ui's, typically 300-500 twice weekly, or 250 EOD and 100-150 daily.
