5/8 inch for thigh?

I just finished my 3 month consult today, and the nurse asked where I injected (thigh) in order to determine what size needle I would need. I've always used 1" in the thighs, 1/2 in" in the delts, and 1 1/2" in the glutes. She said that I could easily inject into the thigh with a 5/8". Does this make any sense to you all? I'm not thinking that is even long enough to get to the muscle. After all aren't the injections supposed to go deep/in the middle of the muscle belly for better absorption?

Many us us inject Sub-Q and have better results that way, so your 5/8 pins are fine.

That was the main reason that it confused me. I do IM and she knows that. The syringe that I use for my HCG sub-q and its tiny. Im going to get agd of them tomorrow and change my order. I can't see 5/8 being good for IM in the thigh.

Hulk, buddy, I've been doing 27g x 5/8" into the thigh for at least a year now, if not more .. I mix it up here and there with a 31g Sub Q, but the majority these days is IM, in the thigh, it works perfect!!

The target area is the lower/outer region of the quadricep. For me, I can take a tape measure, go up 6" from the center of the knee cap, then OUT approx. 2", and that's the ZONE. 5/8" length is perfect! Always aspirate before proceeding, as you should do with any IM injection. Every now and then (maybe 2 out of 10), I knick a vein, and I get a bleeder after the needle comes out. Same would happen with the glutes, so it's not really any different. Just pressure it down with a wipe for a minute or so and that's that ...

1/2 and 5/8ths is really a negligible difference. I stick a 29g 1/2 in my upper thigh and have no issues it being subQ or shallow IM. You're life will get simpler when you choose one needle and just go with it. I haven't bought in to the theory of scar tissue and IM and SubQ, I just stick it, inject, and live my life.

Every now and then I'll hit one of those little "crackly" areas, which has a little sting to it. At that point I know I just hit a former injection site. Like you, I don't think much about it or get worried by any means.
