I do not know if it is news, but I refilled my Cialis prescription the other day and was surprised when my co-pay was $10.00 instead the normal $25.00 that I am charged for pharmaceuticals that are still on patent. I have not had that script filled for a couple of months because it is more of an assurance plan than an absolute necessity these days. Apparently, Teva's generic is now being dispensed in U.S. pharmacies. The cash price is not much lower than that of Cialis, but at $10.00 for eight 20mg tablets (my cost and my plan's limit per fill), it is does not pay to go overseas. I know exactly what I am getting when I go to my pharmacy.

That's because sometimes drug companies make their own medication, and in other cases, they work with a contract manufacturer. We did a little digging on where Cialis is made... My ex works in the pharmaceutical industry. She she used to work in regulatory. A drug that is sold in the U.S. is under the scrutiny of the FDA. It is not the same thing as a drug that is manufactured in India. While there are generics that are manufactured in India by companies such as Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, those drugs and their manufacturing processes are under the scrutiny of the FDA. I am not saying that everything that ships from India is garbage. I am just saying that one never really knows what one is getting. It is a buyer beware situation. The FDA exists for a reason.

Full retail is over $500.00 for 8 tablets. However, that is not what Rx insurance is paying.

My pharmacy only lists my co-pay and the cash price on the receipt. The PBM that manages my plan negotiates their price. I am certain that it is not the cash price.
