What makes scrotum application convert more into DHT?

For transdermal testosterone, what exactly is the reason scrotum application results in much higher DHT conversion than other areas?

Is it JUST because of the higher absorption rate of the scrotum skin?

Does testosterone absorbing/interacting with the testicles have anything to do with it?

In general, transdermal will cause a higher conversion of T-->DHT compared to injectable due to a high degree of -reductase activity in the skin.

Scrotal skin is denser in the -reductase enzyme resulting in increased conversion of T-->DHT.

Testosterone cream applied to the scrotum has 5-8x greater absorption compared to gel/cream applied to the body (shoulders/arms/chest/inner thighs).

The skin metabolizes testosterone to DHT by -reductase, and the greatest 5α-reductase activity is found in genital skin

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
