Hey guys, I'm new to this board. I've been lurking for a few weeks and have been very impressed with the content on this site. I've been to several different boards and I feel like the members here and Mr. Vergel are very knowledgeable.

Anyway, a quick background about myself: I'm 32 years old and have felt a lot of low-t symptoms the past year. I got my levels checked twice (3 weeks apart) and my total t-levels were in the mid 300's the middle 200's.

I had a follow-up appointment with my family doc, a general practitioner, yesterday and she thought I needed testosterone replacement. She recommended androgel, but I was able to convince her that injections would be better for me, as I did not want to transfer the gel to wife and kids. She said they don't do Test Cyp. injections in the office, but agreed to let me pin myself at home. I was very happy with this. She said I would have to get the testosterone from a compounding pharmacy in a different city and that insurance would not cover it. I told her that my insurance should cover it and told her that CVS had it. She was surprised about this and called in a script to them. My doc agreed to start out at 100mg with twice weekly subq injections. However, my doc was not comfortable in prescribing HCG when I asked and she wanted to refer me elsewhere for that. It should be noted that I planned on starting lower than 200mg a week, but secretly liked the wiggle room the higher dosage allowed in case 100mg a week wasn't cutting it.

I went to CVS and found out that the script was written out for 100mg/ml of test cyp. and was prescribed as 1ml injected 3 times per week. This dose was incorrect, plus my insurance would not pay for that high of a dose. Also, the needles she prescribed for subq were 20 gauge 1 1/2" !!

I called my doc back this morning and got stuck with her secretary. I told her that I wanted 29gauge 0.5cc 1/2" needles and that I would prefer the testosterone to be 200mg / ml version with smaller dosing for comfort. She said she would speak to my doc and get back to me. I waited for a couple of hours and called CVS. They told me that my doc cancelled the entire script and did not put a new one in. I called my doc and got stuck speaking with the same secretary. She said my doc was uncomfortable treating me and wanted to refer me to someone else. What the hell! How can she just cancel the entire treatment like that. I told the lady I wanted to talk to my doc and she told me she would call me back later. Of course, no call yet.

Am I right to be upset? To me, this is ridiculous. Rarely do I get upset or angry, but this has me steaming. I'm waiting to talk to my doc in the hopes I can convince her to stick to the original plan.

The only thing is that they don't accept insurance. But, I might have no choice.

No, they don't accept insurance, though they will provide backup for you to file on your own. Not knowing your financial condition I can only make the general observation that you should consider this as an investment in your life and health. The doctor in your insurance network didn't do you any favours - no matter what it did or didn't cost you.

If only you could have had a friend knock you out and roll you in on a gurney. That's the only whey that doc would be "comfortable". A majority on here know how stressed you're feeling right now. "Surprised" CVS has cyp. Yank me harder. Not getting her cut from the referral= crocodile tears. She deliberately called in that way to fail.

When insurance is refused always give your insurance company a call a ask for an approval on a rejection. You will often get it. A good pharmacist will call the doc and ask if he wants to mod his script. You should not have been put in the position of calling yourself.

Syringes and needles: I'm learning the hard way. Buy your own. In California, as of Jan 1, 2015 needles and syringes of all types are no longer an Rx item. Any style, any quantity. No ID required. Public health policy.

Of course she did! That's because that length and gauge is perfect for SubQ injections! You should have asked her to demonstrate on herself with that syringe/needle setup.

Yes, and yes it is ridiculous. Fire her ass ASAP, and call Defy Medical. No BS, great medical care, cutting edge TRT knowledge...in other words, it's worth every penny. You won't be sorry.

"Test cyp only available from (my brother-in-law's) compounding pharmacy in another city and you'll have to pay cash"
"CVS sells CYP? Gracious me Whoda thunk!"

I'll bet the medical board's ethics committee will want to hear about this.
Hope you've already downloaded the form. Send it to her blank and ask for a response within three days.

The best part is that she doesn't even have the decency to call me back and explain her decision herself. She hides behind some lady at the desk. I requested the secretary to have my doc call me back ASAP back when this happened and I still haven't gotten a call. I think the secretary made it look like I was trying to get a bigger dose by going to 200 mg/ml, when I was actually trying to get her to put in a lesser dose on the Rx. Ridiculous.

Get a new doctor. I've reached the point in my life that I'm tired of fighting with doctors. I'm the patient, I pay the insurance and copay, and that pays the doc. Why pay for poor service or service that you're not happy with? Why try to convince a doctor? Just find another one.

I had a doc that refused to treat me. I didn't argue, I didn't fight. I said, "OK". I found another doctor, in network, that did TRT. When I came back to my original doctor for a regular checkup, he saw my testosterone was in the 800's and tried to order me to drop my dose and get into the 400's where HE felt it was safe. I told him, "Hell no! You had your chance to treat me and you refused. Now, someone else is doing it and I will not drop my dosage. If you don't like it, let me know now so I could find a new GP too."

Agree 100%! The thing to remember is that the doctor works for you - NOT the other way around. You are the boss and if your doctor wont help, 'fire' him and get another doctor.
