Shoulder problems help

Hello all,
I have this pain when pulling up my pants and performing certain movements. Doing the internal rotation on a football goal post movements with the left arm. Any words of advice how much rest is needed?

I have had and rehabbed from severe problems in both shoulders including something loosely similar to what you describe. Here are some thoughts.
- Avoid any movement that seems to make it worse
- Do light movements to get blood into the joint through every possible range of motion
- If you can do standing rows with very light weight without making it worse, that helped me a lot
- As always, DMSO and BPC patches if you have them. Supplement with collagen.
- Red light if you have it
- Diclofenac gel can mask the pain and may help with reducing inflammation, but you want to make sure you don't re-injure the joint when you don't feel pain. Same with Gunther's gel.
- There's no telling how long it will take to fully heal, but my experience is that shoulders (and joints in general) take much longer than muscles to heal. Mine each took almost a year but what I had was much worse than what it sounds like you have, but don't be alarmed if it lingers for a couple of months.

This is excellent advice. I have had shoulder problems since the early 7O’s. I’m addition to what Guided has said I would suggest using bands atleta for a while to increase blood flow. Standing rows with a wide grip. There are a lot of good sites on the Internet and on YouTube they can tell you what to do. If you Google physical therapy protocol for shoulders and shoulder pain and find something that came from a reputable hospital or orthopedic group and follow that. not sure how old you are but this tends to come and go over the course of a lifetime. I found that if I substitute a hard shoulder workout for physical therapy and continue with the rest of my body I feel a lot better and tend to recover faster.

When you all say standing rows are they synonomous with the upright row? Or is this a standing bent over dumbell row or reverse fly? I thought upright rows were dangerous for impingement

I feel the same way, as they are not good for so,e people and I am one of them. If you do upright rows using a straight bar use a wide, somewhere around slightly less than shoulder width or use two dumbbells.

Yes, I use the upright row with a fairly narrow grip, however, as with everything, you have to be on the lookout for any sign of damage. I only use light weights and use the movement to loosen up my shoulders and reactivate muscles if I am having some other issue.

I don't know if you have a torn rotator cuff, if you do this will heal it. It there's bone spurts you will have to have surgery.

Not so sure about that. It may work for some with moderate tears but for me that was one of the worst things I could do for it. I have problems with both shoulders sine the late 1960’s and have worked out and around injuries for that whole time. Surgery on the shoulder 10 years ago and do some rehab 3days per week so I can continue to work out

If you do try it be very careful. I am fortunate that i have a son that has a PhD in physiology where I get my advice. Look for someone who knows exercise physiology and avoid anecdotal evidence. A shoulder injury is a long term project.

So what type of surgery did you actually have? Was it for repairing rotator cuffs? Any bone spurs?
