Maybe the old every two week protocol wasn't so bad

Anyone have any experience with libido coming back right before your next shot? Thinking back on my experiences with TRT I remember getting put on a protocol that had me coming in every 10-14 days for a shot. Unfortunately, I was pretty accepting of whatever the doctor wanted to do at the time so I don't know how many milligrams the shot was but I do remember feeling good right before at the 9-13 day mark. Then I would get the shot and lose that brief window of libido. Any ideas on what caused this?

It could well have been estradiol. Your e2 may have soared over the course of the 14 day period but, just prior to your next shot, slid into range again. Then, next shot, estradiol climbs, and the cycle repeats.

Thanks! If that's the case, do you think I could do a test where I take 200mg at one time and then wait for a day when I'm feeling that libido and somehow extrapolate a proper dosing schedule?

As Coast stated most likely elevated e2 as when one injects large doses of testosterone a supra-physiological peak in T and e2 follows.

A 2 week protocol is horrible for anyone and god forbid one has low shbg.

The old school (outdated) standard 2 week trt protocol is usually 200mg every 2 weeks.

That old school protocol we know is outdated and pretty much useless. God only knows how many men quit TRT because they were using the old school protocol every two weeks. The fact you had a bit of libido just before your next shot shows it wasn't managed effectively. We know much more now. The protocols used today by the leading hormone MD's are a huge improvement. Whats obvious is that you do not use an accepted current protocol and it's not being managed. This is why we tell people to try our sponsor. Defymedical.com. They got this part nailed down and many here are very satisfied with them. Furthermore they are quite inexpensive. I'm in Canada and I use Defy by phone and it works great!

Dosing and schedules have different variables that must be factored in. Get comprehensive blood work done and you can get some guidance here . A good doctor that specializes in male hormone optimization is what you need. Good luck.

SHBG is the bedrock test that shines the most light on what a protocol should look like. There's no reason to inject 200mg of testosterone, monitor your symptoms, and best-guess your way to a protocol.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
