Lower BMR after large weight loss - is this a hormonal/testosterone issue?

Saw a fascinating article about studies done on folks that have lost significant amounts of weight, i.e. Biggest Loser contestants.

They mention a loss of leptin in the body as someone loses an extreme amount of weight. How can this be counteracted?

Also - can hormonal restoration ala TRT help with the severe decline in BMR in these folks?

Is there any way to raise a BMR in ones body? Im noticing that I personally require a fairly drastic caloric restriction to get the scale to move - currently 240 lbs and eating 1900kcal and weight staying steady on the sale.

To control my appetite, I had to go low carb. It was very tough when I first started and I know most can't last on low carb.

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
