After years of suffering with all the signs of low T and trying endless T-Boosters I received Jay Campbell's book The Definitive Testosterone Replacement Therapy Manual for Fathers Day from my wife. My age is 50 I train 4-5 days per week eat a healthy diet none smoker and have about 12-15 drinks per year. To keep it short my mission is to deal with this taking all the right steps. I plan to sit with my primary Doctor and get a referral to see a local TrT specialist in the area. I believe the first step is to have all blood work done and come up with plan based on that. Should I have my blood work done at a local Discounted Labs prior to seeing my Primary? Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to Excelmale. Let me ask a question: what sort of relationship do you have with your primary care physician? Will your admirable, proactive approach to your health be appreciated or will it be resented? You may find, as so many of us have, that doctors we trust in other aspects of our health, are insecure, dismissive, and ignorant of contemporary TRT protocols and patient care. I hope that isn't what you discover, but you shouldn't be surprised if it is.

if it was up to me, I would self-test. It is your body and you have a right to know what is going on.

Just wait but be educated and let him know all the things you want tested.
It was always hard for me to get a sensitive e2 test from my dr. Locally

Does insurance come into play?
Many Drs will not prescribe all the other things like Hcg and an ai which can be a must have for some.

I've always had a good relationship with my primary but I'm concerned he may not get many questions on this. Most of his patients are a lot older. He did try to prescribe Viagra years ago but I feel that is nothing but a band aide. Based on your opinion I will set up my own appointment with Discounted Labs. Which tests should I have done? Just total and free testosterone or the full one Pre- TRT MALE Hormone / Wellness Panel cost $260.00? I have a Discounted Labs about 9 miles from me.

Edwin,

Maybe you should read this again, because Coastie hits the nail on the head.

Many of us here have already been where you are right now...starting with our primary care physicians, sweating insurance coverage, moving on to Endos and Urologists that were equally clueless when it comes to the TRT field. Receiving sub-standard medical care, and feeling frustrated is no way to be. If I would only give you one piece of advice, it would be to go straight to the experts (Defy Medical), and skip all the frustration, outdated protocols, and sub-standard care.

I don't know if it is economically feasible for you to do so, but you will save so much time, and receive top notch care from the most knowledgeable and highly regarded doctors in the TRT business. Good luck.

and the wasted time and money. I tried talking to my GP first he is a nice guy and get along good but when he was recommending OTC products to raise my LH/FSH when I'm primary hypogonadism I knew it was time to go elsewhere.
