I just started Wegovy yesterday.. Nauseous already :)

Had my physical last week. My PCP loved my labs and vitals but said I'm fat. She acknowledged my hard earned muscle but feels I should drop some fat (5'11" and 227 pounds). I told her at my age (60) it's been a struggle. I used to be able to drop weight easily. I'm not blaming my age, I'm blaming my lack of will power and increased appetite. So, she prescribed me Mournjaro which was quickly denied so she tried Wegovy..approved. I took my first .25mg shot yesterday and woke up with moderate nausea.. I'll continue to post updates to my journey here

Typical and expected side effects. For most people, those side effects fade after a week or two. The real problem for some (including myself) is the constipation. GLP-1's slow gastric emptying and it's brutal for some people. Some tips:

1. Pace yourself when eating, slow down. You will get full much faster while on the meds and if you eat too fast you will end up feeling like a bloated whale.
2.Eat plenty of fiber, take psyllium at night. If it gets too bad, take some Milk of Magnesia.
3.Make protein a priority.
4.Stay hydrated, invest in a good electrolyte powder (I like the ReLite brand)
5.Probiotics are essential as your gut microbiome balance will be affected.
5.Hang in there, the rapid weight loss is worth a little discomfort.

Also, expect some mild fatigue and perhaps a drop in motivation due to a disruption of neurotransmitters in the gut. This also passes (to a certain degree). You may feel a drop in libido... still worth it if your goal is to shed those hard to lose pounds.

Yep, she mentioned the protein too.. I definitely don't want to lose muscle that didn't come easy. I'll look into the other stuff. My wife started this quite a while ago and suffers the constipation so I'll be checking psyllium out.. thanks

Against my better judgement, my wife took it for a few months. She did lose weight, but looked sick while doing it. I finally got her to quit . . . yes, she gained most of the weight back. But she has since adopted a healthier lifestyle and her weight is coming down . . . the right way.

I'm 69 and I definitely know that it's a challenge to lose weight; I've been there. We're retired and comfortable and it's great to have that piece of pie every day with a coffee. But pretty soon you realize that comfortable and lean don't go together. Life is better and means more if you inject some challenge into it . . . you have to get up in the morning working towards a goal, not just looking forward to the next tasty tidbit.

You hit the nail on the head, admitting that the real problem is your lack of will power. That's where your efforts should be focused, and that's where your answer lies.

I get that.. I've been at this for YEARS so my hope is to get back my "reasonable" weight, drop the drug and fight like hell NOT to gain the weight back. My advantage is that I am well into my fitness routine. My issue / mistake was "bulking" up which I did.. lol, losing the resulting fat is the problem. I'm hoping this will give me that kick in the ..... and help me get back on track. For me, this isn't a lazy weight problem, I made bad habits under the excuse of building the bulk sending my appetite out of control. I should weigh 300 pounds the way I've been eating..
 
I get that.. I've been at this for YEARS so my hope is to get back my "reasonable" weight, drop the drug and fight like hell NOT to gain the weight back. Gotta tell you though, you don't sound waaay overweight to me, 5"11 and 227 isn't that bad, especially if you're muscular the way you contend. Sure, losing 20 lbs would help (isn't that true for most people?), but I'd think you could do that over the space of a year making minor changes.

From my very limited experience with Wegovy, I noticed that my wife lost her appetite and had very little desire to eat, therefore, of course, the weight loss. If you're the same, then I'd think there's no way that you could just lose fat, and not the muscle. You'll get slimmer but you'll lose the good with the bad. And I saw some stats once that suggested, amongst people who quit taking Wegovy, that the vast majority gained the weight back.

Whatever you do, I wish you the best brother . . .

Well, you also gain your weight back if you cannot adhere to a strict diet. It's just true that for some of us it is much harder to stay lean.
I'm doing again a keto diet to lose fat and will afterwards use a micro dose of reta when transitioning to a regular carb diet to damp the carb food noise.
