Question is how do you guys go about getting your labs done? Labwork is very pricy. I am a patient of a TRT clinic but they do not accept insurance. I currently do not have a PCP. Looking now. Anyhow do you just pay out of pocket for your labs?

Anyway to get reimbursed for it? I know about the Discount Labs website but that's still out of pocket.

Do you have insurance that covers labs?

Check your insurance for something called a "Lab Card". If this is a part of your coverages, you can get labs at no cost/no deductible/no co-pay. All you need is an MD to order the tests.

Nothing is free in life. I started using discount labs a few months ago. The prices are equivalent to our insurance costs for lab work. Now that we don't have health insurance this will come in very handy!

Labs played a serious reason I switched to Defy, having this "lab card" on my insurance coverage and using it at Quest Diagnostics, Defy will write me a script for whatever labs I want at no-charge, then as I said, no deductible/no copay on the lab card so I pretty much did switch to being able to get all the labs I want, for "free".

You request a script from Defy then you take that to your nearest Labcorp/Quest and that's it?

Indeed, Defy will write the script, free of charge, and of course that's all predicated on my insurance picks up the total cost @ Quest. I haven't paid a cent for labs for 18 months. And I test, A LOT.

I know we've never discussed that specific detail during our consults (there's plenty else to occupy our time), but that certainly is a great (and atypical) insurance policy you have! What's the actual carrier/policy if you don't mind sharing?

@Dr Justin Saya
It's a component on my overall insurance plan, it's called a "Lab Card" and it's accepted at Quest. My insurance carrier is GEHA, Governement Employees Health Association (I work for the Federal Gov/Dept of Defense)
