so my BP runs pretty high all day. usually 180/90. i've been reducing my T dosing a bit to a level where it was more normal high so this is in progress
my diet is overall fairly ok, i workout 4-5week gym/cardio. in the process of loosing BF (and going well, went down from 30% to 27% in 3 months)
but I have problems finding the right BP meds, here is what I tried:

losartan: - felt like shit/anxiety. no change in BP
telmisartan - even at 40mg absolute no change in BP. but felt like shit, tired
lisinopril: - awful s/x, not functional
metropolol - tired as fuck, barely any change at BP at 25mg
clonidine: only one which does something, but I know that withdrawal from this is absolute garbage, and if you forget to take a dose you can literally die due to rebound BP pretty quick

what else is there to try?

My sympathies. I have been on Lisinopril (40mg), and that has been good for the last several years, keeping me in the 120's, maybe low 130's. Took some readings last weekend that hit 140/80. Not terrible, but I hate the creep. I was coming off a crazy stressful week at work. Plus, I give myself white coat syndrome. I hate taking my BP! Mini anxiety attack which of course jacks the results. Isn't that stupid? :)

I don't have any answers for you, but I am truly surprised none of those conventional meds lowered your BP. Too much anxiety/adrenaline?

Don't know what doctors would think about it BUT when my bp is up, I pop a couple L-Citrulline. 20 minutes later it is coming down. I like toniq Fuel which is L-Citrulline, L-Arginine and beet root extract.
I'm sure it's not addressing the actual issues.

Maybe talk to your doctor about Bystolic or the generic version Nebivilol . I have used it for a year and seems to work well!

Since starting 5mg of tadalafil daily along with 4mg of terazosin (these were originally prescribed to me for BPH) I have been able to stop my other BP meds. I also take a lot of supplements that reportedly can help to lower BP. You can find them with a Google search.

Enalapril seems to work well for me. 10mg doesn't seem to have any sides I notice. Stopped it for a month to see if noticed anything...nope...except higher BP. Without it I'm around 140ish/100. With it I'm good. Was on several of the others you listed, lisinopril was the worst. Am now on daily cialis and other supps as well. Only 10-15 lbs overweight and eat well and workout religiously with weights and rowing and cycling. (6:58 for 2k on the Concept 2 last year). Enalapril might be worth a shot, that 180/100 isn't good. Best of luck

thank for the tips, i might try enalapril. trying to figure out why my BP is high. not doing even caffeine. maybe elevated HCT could do this

I will chime in on the BP issues (pre treated 140s/85-90, I started out with Losartan , barely worked at 100mg Dose, BP was 130/85 on it. It gave me anxiety\depression. Switched to Valsartan 160MG worked great for BP 120s/70s, caused servere muscle\bone pain. Then moved to irbesartan 150MG, worked well BP 110s/70s. I then moved to taking 75MG of irbesartan and it still keeps my bp in the 120s/70s been on this for about a year, honestly no side effect accept for the first month had sinus issues. For those looking for a supplement that can help with BP try nattokinase, anytime I add this supplement it will usually drop my systolic 5-10 points.

I think i might try the supplement route first, citruline, beet root, nattokinase. maybe add 5mg cialis, although that usually gives me mild sciatic pain which i had some time ago but it resolved mostly.
I would personally not take anything for a BP of 140/90. according to the AAFP this is normal. also some 'youtube docs' like Ken Berry consider this ok.

I get where you’re coming from, but I will say with the irbesartan I really have no side effects, but will say it has boosted erection quality for sure. Likely due to its affect on nitric oxide. I honestly did not like my resting bp in the 140s, if it was in the 130s I may have not tried any further treatment after the losartan/valsartan trial. Also take the natto on a empty stomach.

Jobshopper,

I would be interested to hear what supplements have worked for you. I have tried several. Remain on: Citruline, Beet Powder, Magnesium and 5mg Cialis in addition to the Lisinopril.
I take pretty much everything in Gene's stack; although not in those quantities. I suggest that you start there to see if that helps and then do some research on other amino acids and supplements that may help. Tadalafil and Terazosin may have the biggest impact on my BP and the supplements may just be an added bonus.

thank you. I ask the doc about irbersartan. i think its a matter of finding one with the least side effects for you. right now my resting BP is 180/100 lol.....i think i have no choice to take some pills and then I can try to see if I can find the root cause and potentially wean myself of that stuff....

Yeah give it a try, with that BP as you know yourself is not good longterm. Always give a med a 30 day run as some side effects disappear or lessen during that time frame. I got some sinus issues from it in the beginning but went away. You likely will get started at 150mg , but you can always split those, to take the least amount for the desired effect. Irbesartan has long half life (11-15hr) so it should provide great 24 hour coverage for you. I take mine at night right before bed.
