Heart rate Issues with Cialis / Tadalafil

Was prescribed 5 mg of a daily dose but based on posting in this forum I decided to cut the dose in half to start at a lower dose. After about 3 consecutive days I noticed my heart was beating faster during the day and it was more noticeable at bed time.

Read a few other posts on this forum that recommended titrating up with a low dose every other day and then working up the dose to attempt to get back to an every day dose. Tried 2.5 mg every other day but after the third dose the rapid heart rates and higher resting heart rate returned. My Apple watch even dictated this and reported that my beats per minute during sleep had increased by 12 beats per minute. I tried cutting the dose even further by splitting the pill to try to get down to 1.25 mg and took it every other day and again by the third does the rapid heart beats returned in the middle of the night.

I'm taking the generic Tadalafil and it says it was manufactured in India. Not sure if that is an issue versus the name brand Cialis. Needless to say that the results are great, however I can't figure out a way to overcome the heart rate issue. Anyone out there have any suggestions on how to possibly overcome the rapid hear rate?

My heart rate goes up too when I take it. Cialis/tadalafil a vasodilator so it opens up your ateries which makes your heart need to pump faster to compensate. If your heart rate didn't go up, you'd pass out. It was originally created to be a blood pressure med which lowered BP by opening up your arteries. People like you and me notice our heart rates so it's a little bit of an odd feeling for us. Others can't even feel theirs beating so they never notice the increase.

It also lasts a long time in your body. I think it has like an 18 hour half life so if you take every day or even every other day, it starts to compound in your system. That's why you're noticing it more by the third dose. If you drink alcohol with it(which is also a vasodilator) you'll really feel your heart beating fast. I've done that too :)

5mg is a big dose for me. That stuff is powerful!!

Thanks for the feedback. The reason I switched to every other day was due to the half life. I read the half life was 17.5 hour or ~ 18 hours. Thus after 36 hours it should be down to zero in your system. By taking it every other day 48 hours would have expired between dosages so I figured the last dose would have been cleared out of my system.

I experimented with 2.5 mg and 1.25 mg every other day and still had the same issues with a very rapid heart rate.

Wonder if perhaps taking it every 4 days might allow the body to get more acclimated. Others have posted that they are sensitive to it as well and just abandoned taking it but I was hoping someone out there might have some feedback on dosing to overcome the rapid heart rate.

Well, after 36 hours it will be down to 25% still left in your system. At 54 hours, you'll still have 12.5% still in your system. One half life reduces the amount by 50%, on the second half life you split it in half again, third half life you split it again, and so on.

What I usually do is take 2.5mg in the morning when I'm going to work. I work in an office so I'm not active there.

What I DON"T do anymore is......
1. Take it and then start drinking beer
2. Take it after a work out where my arteries are already dilated and my heart rate is high
3. Take it before a workout or any hard physical activity.

A few weeks ago I was prescribed 5 mg Tadalafil daily, zero side effects and it is starting to be effective, it takes about 5 days in your system to fully saturate. After about two weeks I got an Iwatch notification that my resting heart rate was up on average about 9 beats per minute. I feel fine I can’t really tell but it did concern me a little. I had my annual physical yesterday and asked my doctor about it. He said 9 beats per minute increase is perfectly normal and not to worry about it and relax. He said your heart is a muscle and given I work from home it could use the extra exercise even though I walk for exercise each day. He said if had had heart issues he would have been hesitant in prescribing it but even though I do have an irregular heartbeat he is not at all concerned and the extra heart beats are nothing to be worried about as long as I feel well and nothing changes

I'd like to think this is true since I also have had what I think is a higher heart rate than I should have for my conditioning level. Lower heart rates are at least correlated (maybe not causative) with greater longevity, however this could just be a marker for higher athleticism. Even so, "perfectly normal" is a huge red flag since that is normal within a very unhealthy population. What we care about is normal within a population with great healthspan. I think this heart rate issue should still be viewed as a potential issue until we have some really strong evidence that it's not.

Thanks for sharing the info about your experience. Would be interesting to see if your resting heart rate comes back down once your system acclimates to the Tadalafil. Mind sharing your age?
