Opinions (and research) seem to change often with regards to this, a bit like the old "butter is bad for you / butter is good for you" etc etc. I'm pretty sure omega 3 supplements have been shown to reduce triglycerides though, unless that's now changed...

Don’t really understand the butter reference. Butter from grass fed ruminant animals as always been a super food throughout our evolution (since we started consuming it obv) and was only vilified when we were tricked into believing that saturated fats are bad for us and are what cause cardiovascular disease. We now know again, that butter from grass fed ruminant animals is a super food, and with the internet being a thing, I doubt we’ll ever forget this/ be tricked into thinking it’s bad for us, ever again

In regards to fish oil supplements, it seems like it’s pretty clear that most are oxidized/ rancid by the time they get to consumers, and common sense should tell us that consuming anything that’s oxidized/ rancid is going to have more negatives and pros, and should be avoided, imo. That part isn’t debatable, imo. What is debatable, is whether the pros outweigh the cons, when consuming the small amount of fish oil supplements that aren’t oxidized/ rancid, by the time they reach consumers, on the market, as well as getting omega 3’s from consuming the fish themselves. What seems to be debatable, from my understanding/ research, is how much omega 3’s/ PUFA’s are healthy to consume, and when too much intake of them can start to cause issues within the body. I assume, like with most things, it’s a U shaped curve, where too little consumption of them might leave room on the table, as far as getting the health benefits from consuming omega 3’s from fish/ seafood, consuming too much of them could cause health issues, and there is an amount in the middle where u get the best of both worlds. Get all the benefits, without too many negatives.

Well you actually explained the reference right after that sentence - it was vilified, then attitudes went back the other way (at least here in the UK, so i'm guessing also in the USA).

I've tried big doses of krill oil which supposedly doesn't go rancid. I noticed a bigger drop in triglycerides from fish oil. I just make sure I buy a bottle that is ifos certified and I look up the batch on the ifos website. Then I cross-reference that at the consumer Labs website. If all checks out I feel good that I have a quality fish oil product.
