Fewer than half of HIV+ men found to have low testosterone are treated with TRT

This nationwide study examines the prevalence of testosterone deficiency and the subsequent use of replacement therapy among men living with HIV. By analyzing data from over 100 million patients, researchers discovered that healthcare providers significantly under-evaluate this population, as only a small fraction of these men ever receive hormonal screening. The findings reveal that even when low testosterone is clinically confirmed, fewer than half of the affected patients are prescribed corrective treatments. Furthermore, the research indicates that immune system health, measured by CD4 counts, does not significantly differ between those with normal or low hormonal levels. Ultimately, the authors argue for standardized medical protocols to close the diagnostic gap and improve the quality of life for this vulnerable group.
