Does depression from low testosterone feel different from "regular" depression?

I honestly don't feel much of a difference with dhea, I been taking it for years, I actually stopped now. I tried pregnenolone but for whatever reason it makes me more depressed. I tried it several times at different times and it's always the same thing.
The doctor who discovered DHEA, Dr. Etienne Emile Baulieu, 94 years old and still active, suggests, for good health and longevity, everyone should take 25 mg, daily, which is what he does. I don't believe he knows something we don't know but for whatever reason(s), some people don't tolerate it and the same applies to pregnenolone and the latter is the grandmother hormone. Perhaps a key is low dosing to mimic endogenous production. Just a thought.

I tried half a capsule of 25 mg DHEA a week ago and felt good at first and then I had a strange itchy feeling on the backside of my throat.

I fall into those group of people that don't tolerate it.

Wonder if it's filler related, though usually it's rice flour. Just my musing. Better not to take it.

Some years ago, had 10 mg capsules from Swanson. I'd been reading about micronized DHEA and pregnenolone. Opened the capsules and put them in a spice grinder to make a fine powder, which it did. I had emptied a capsule into a measuring spoon to see the size of spoon needed for a dose. Tried a dose of the finished version. I started getting erections a few hours later but over the course of a few days, developed edema in my feet and ankles. Didn't have an AI and didn't know that I could purchase it online. But, for a brief time, my mood was good, libido was strong and I had erections.

I was diagnosed with 'dysthymia' -basically a chronic mild depression - in my 40's, however I had it off and on since puberty. Defied treatment - Lexapro, Wellbutrin, any number of alternative remedies.

It completely disappeared a couple months after starting TRT - I am coming up on a year on TRT. TRT made a huge difference in how I feel and feel about myself. Wish I would have started much younger.

hope it works for you.

Great to read this! Did your doctor recommend DHEA or did you try it based on your own research? Higher dosing, from what I've read, seems to be associated with its anti-depressant action. Low dose for me, 25 mg, seems to accentuate my moodiness and irritability. When I read a post where someone is taking 100 mg, my interest in DHEA is renewed.

I tried lower doses of DHEA - like 25mg over the years and they didn't do anything noticeable. Now, I did start 100mg of DHEA a day at the same time as I started TRT - I don't really know. At some point I may try cutting it out and see what difference that makes.

Yesterday, I took 100 mg of DHEA. Later in the morning, at my urologist, one hour drive up I-95, his nurse took my blood pressure. Everytime I go to a doctor, my BP is high, but not at home. The nurse told me my BP was 116/70. I can't say it was the DHEA, but certainly, coincidental. Dosing 100 mg, Test E, IM, E5D.

My BP is running in the 120s/70s - and I am also on 10mg of Amlodipine for it.
I was wondering if the DHEA was a factor in the BP

I recently had a Phlebotomy for my high Hematocrit and that dropped my BP a few points.
