Hey so I am new to this forum. I have been reading up a lot on testosterone. I have been reading a lot about the side effects of Trt and losing fertility. I heard clomid can maintain that and increase your T without stopping fertility. My current stats is I am 19 (almost 20) and I have a low level of 253 ng/dl. And experience a lot of the mental symptoms that go along with low T. Esepcially the low self esteem part. I wish to maintain my fertility as I want to have kids, but I still don't want to deal with my constant anxiety/low confidence/depression.

What are your guys thoughts? I know its a newbie question, but I am only asking because I know I am considered young for the community.

Given your age, and depending on whether you are dealing with primary or secondary hypogonadism, you and your doctor may well consider using Clomid in an attempt to restart your axis. The use of Clomid and testosterone simultaneously is NOT recommended. HCG, however, is routinely used with testosterone therapy to maintain fertility.

It's all going to depend on your labs, total testosterone is like knowing someone's weight. If I'm 150lbs, am I healthy? Depends if I'm 5'8 or 6'5.

Clomid is going to be strongly pushed due to your age and because you want to maintain fertility, there really isn't a better option for someone like you, assuming labs indicate it. Now, Clomid is a very difficult drug to achieve success on.

I know it is not much info, I am calling a lab tomorrow and figuring out all the beginning things. I plan to get my blood panels soon. I would like to look into the trt and hcg method as well. Thanks for the response

Id be very concerned about what the cause is, you're too young to be in this hole you're in and there's too many holes in your medical history...like head trauma, perhaps, kick in the balls, diet, mental illness, anxiety...a root cause would be more productive and to rule out things before you go down this road, even Clomid which guys that have success on Clomid are "unicorns" if you catch the meaning.

I agree, do you think asking the same doctor for TRT would be effective for figuring out why its low or should I go to a general physician/eurologist? I only ask this because Idk if the Trt doctor would just try to sell to me and tell me to get on Trt. I just hate dealing with all these symptoms

This goes to the question, the serious question, of who you consult for care. In an earlier post I noted that it is very, very difficult to find a doctor who knows how to treat hypogonadism. A good "TRT doctor" doesn't push any patient into a TRT protocol...but they are hard to find.

How are are you planning to go about choosing a doctor?

Well First I am using some of the questions as you guys suggested then I want to write down a few of my own to screen the doctor on his (credibility/knowledge base) then what you guys said be aware if he pushes a Trt protocal then I checked the list of doctors/clinics on your guys' excel sheet and surprisingly found 2 really close to me.If they qualify then see what kind of options they are offering, then if they don't qualify keep searching for doctors in my area or possibly try defy medical? I have saw a lot of good reviews.

I'd go fow whomever you or the family knows for a basic wellness exam, a thorough all over exam and discussion. I'd get off this TRT notion you have right now, I think it's totally innappropriate with your age. Just my opinion.

I've been trying for awhile to decide for myself also whether clomid or TRT. does clomid have long term side effects is my concern.

I am only asking because I am sure you are knowledgable, but why exactly do you think I am too young? Is it good for me to sit here with Low T symptoms until I grow older and still have them?

Would you say it's still inappropriate even if the guy has profound primary hypogonadism? If so that's rather restrictive.

I do. He needs to travel a number of other routes for a root cause given his age. He has a major problem if he's hypo @ 19 and you know how guys here fail to divulge their head injuries, use of SSRI's, alcohol abuse, anxiety, etc etc.., It wouldn't be responsible have a 19 year old on a lifetime of sticking himself without ruling out these factors. But you know, opinions and all that, yours isn't exactly up on my list of things I agree with either.

I only asked about primary.

I agree with you on everything else.
