Blood work question

I had my 6 month blood work done for Defy and have a couple questions maybe you guys can help me with before I have my appointment. I still have to schedule the Defy appointment.

My Doc called today and ask that I provide blood work since my iron levels are low and he wants to investigate more. When I went down there I let them know I had donated a double RBC to the Red Cross a little over a month ago. The Doc decided he could wait to check my levels again until my next scheduled follow up in 3 months.

In addition to the double RBC donation I've been taking L-Citulline Malate 2:1 and L-Arginine. I'm not sure if this would have any affect on these levels or not.

Can the reason for the low levels in my CBC results caused by either of these reasons? (blood donations and/or supplements)

I feel fine and everything is going well. I'm pleased with my protocol and can't see any reason to change anything. You can see in my vitals that I'm moving in the right direction with weight and BP. Going to the gym really helps!

Thanks Steve

Congrats Steve, man I wish my lipids were that good. Nice job all around. Are you doing ketosis?

I believe the double red blood cell donation is the cause of your iron issues and not the supplements.
I would not give whole blood until you hit >50.5 on you hema. That gives you some breathing room before the 56 cutoff.

Heah did you have any success with Taurine and your tinnitus? I've been looking for something to help reduce my ringing.
So far everything I have tried has been in vein.

I'm not doing ketosis. I have cut back on bad carbs the best I can and started eating more raw veggies. I've never cared for cook veggies.

Unfortunately, I can't say the Taurine has helped with the ringing in my ears. I've been taking 4 grams per day for the past 3 or 4 weeks. I purchased in bulk so I'll be taking it for a while.

I was thinking the same on the double RBC donations. I'll make sure my follow up is prior to the next time I can donate in January. The only reason I considered the supplements for a possible cause is since taking them regularly my resting heart rate has dropped from an average of 72/73 to now an average of 60. Not that should affect my iron levels.

I'm sure working out regularly helped this too.

Thanks

It seems that those of us in the upper age quartile here at EM are dealing with the challenge of tinnitus. As soon as I read this...the ringing demanded attention...damn it.

One thing I'm going to try with the Taurine is take it multiple times a day. I've been taking the 4 grams at once in the AM. I'm going to split that up and see if there is any difference. I notice the ringing more sitting around at night watching TV ~12 hours after taking a dose.

I got nothing to loose by trying it.

Please report back if it starts helping.

I have tried the following supplements for at least 60 days for my tinnitus, non helped:
Lipo-Flavonoid® Plus which I think is B-2
Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin Hcl) 100 mg
Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine Hcl) 100 mg
Vitamin B-12 (methylocobalamin) 1000 mcg
Zinc 15mg 2x morning evening
Magnesium 200mg

Looking at your blood test again I am surprised they are OK with DHEA @ 144. In my Defy first consult they wanted me @ >300 and prescribed 25mg 1x per day. On my second followup my DHEA was 254.4 and they were OK with that no change to DHEA script.

I was surprised it drop that much. I'm sure when I have my appointment with Defy they will increase my DHEA to 50mg. I started out on that and my March test results was 308 from 83 (way to low). My wife purchased 25mg and that is what I've been taking. As you can see it has dropped dramatically. I'm sure they'll tell me to go back to 50mg, which I'm good with.

After reading the Taurine label (Nutricost brand) again this morning it says you can take 1 or 2 scoops two or three times a day. I'm going to try 2 scoops (4mg) three times a day. I started today.

Would have been nice to have ferritin tested.

Donating blood can cause microcytic anemia, or microcytosis.

How many times did you donate?

My last two donations where double RBC and prior to that was two whole blood. The only reason I donated the double was the Red Cross said they could really use a double RBC donation, so I helped them out. They like I have O- blood.

My doctor didn't mention the exact test he was going to run. But, as I mentioned he decided to wait when he found out I've been donating blood.
