Blood Donation

So my hematocrit levels are still high so its time to donate blood. But, just called my local LifeSouth Community Blood Center and they said under no circumstance can they take a blood donation from me. She said if I had a doctor's orders that I needed to have it drawn they would present it to their medical director to see if he would approve it to be drawn and discarded but it was no guarantee. I asked if there was any situation in which it could be counted as a donation and she said no.

Anyone else had this issue or do you have to see a hematologist to have it drawn out for "medical" purposes of high hematocrit levels.

Check with another blood center, I had to look around to get one who would allow the doctors Rx for a therapeutic phlebotomy to be done and ended up with one that didn't cost me anything. So yea make sure you ask about cost if any, when they say yes they will do the therapeutic.
