I've used Berberine with great success. Doc wanted to put me on Metformin, but asked that we give Berberine a try first since Metformin is known to cause some digestive distress in some people.
My A1c was creeping up on the 5.8 to 6.0 range and I couldn't get it to come down no matter what I did (altered diet, etc.). Berberine and Metformin dose 1:1 the same.
Voila! A few weeks later, A1c was down to a comfortable 4.2.
So now keep an occasional eye on fasting glucose levels. When I see that creep up above 100 in the morning upon waking, I know it's time to get back on the Berberine.
I also am experiencing success with Berberine.
After 5 weeks of 500mg/daily I had blood work and my A1C went down 0.3
I do time restricted eating and my diet consist of 95% meat/eggs.
At 58 y/o, 5"9' and 170 lbs nothing else I tried lowered my A1C until Berberine.
Looking forward to next blood panel in a few months.
Review of metformin and anti-aging medicine. Metformin was shown to be anti-aging in diabetics. The TAME study wants to do same for all of us. Can We Live to 120 On Metformin? Reducing the biological effects of aging would mean the possibility of increasing lifespans, staving off...
I haven't had a good start with it yet.
I started at 500 mg a day but discontinued it as I have just found out that I have shingles.
Antiviral meds for now.....
