5. Conclusion
This study is the first to provide indications that testosterone plasma levels are significantly lower in male patients –but not in female ones suffering from acute exacerbation of panic disorder comorbid with agoraphobia compared to healthy controls. What is more, in male patients lower T/C ratio is significantly associated with more severe PDA symptomatology. On the contrary, in female patients a significant positive association emerged between both testosterone levels and the T/C ratio with the severity of PDA symptoms. Future studies are needed to replicate our findings in larger patients’ samples and to explore their potential therapeutic implications in clinical practice.
