ADHD, treatments, libido

wondering

Active Member
So , quite sure I have had ADHD my entire life and considering getting treatment for it. Been 10 years of TRT, Thyroid protocol tweaking with pretty much zero improvement in libido and ED. PT-141, Viagra, Cialis all with minimal help.

I have seen read some people get great improvement (and some reduction) in symptoms after taking Ritalin, and the other options.

Curious if anyone here has personal experience in this area.

I was diagnosed with ADHD and Tourette Syndrome at age 7, ritalin made me hyper focused, superhuman strength and made me look emaciated. I lost 32 pounds is 28 days when I first started taking it, but couldn't sleep more than 2-4 hours per night.

I was a hyper focused machine for sustained periods of time, I could hyper focus on stuff for more than 20 hours without rest. Libido and erections are two very different things, one can have libido but unable to act on it because erections aren't possible.

People with ADHD have low dopamine, I would try wellbutrin.

I def believe I have low dopamine - I am pretty flat emotionally. I dont experience joy for most of my life.

I have used methylphenidate, Vyvanse and Adderall. I find they decrease quality of erections yet increases intensity of orgasm. They decrease drive and make you want to sit and do nothing. I have used Caber as well and it doesn't do what you read about it or it don't for me. Wellbutrin caused me to have anxiety.

My PCP sent a script in to pharmacy. I read many reviews on it last night and people are all over the board on what it does for them, which makes sense. The only way to know is try. I hope to be like some that said libido went thru the roof. Still searching.

Methylphenidate (Ritalin) is nothing more than cocaine in pill form. Short half life, high spike in dopamine. I can get "high" on just 5mg, and then tolerance builds up real quick. Within 2 weeks 40mg would have less of an effect than 5mg. I used to use the stuff (prescribed) exam and test time over the years. A couple hours after dosing I would crash really hard, wired and tired. Never did cocaine, but I am told the effect is similar.

Plenty of online posts all over of people crushing and snorting the pills, Concerta was designed to circumvent this as well and provide 10 hour sustained release. Used that as well.

I reserve such stimulants for getting work done last minute at short notice, important meetings etc. I believe people use cocaine in the same way.

As a past and still occasional user of methylphenidate, I would never ever recommend this be taken as a permanent solution long term everyday solution. Its a hard drug, and scheduled as such.

There is a solution and its without side effects! Its quite difficult though to grasp but the results will blow you away once successfully mastered. Mindfull meditation (eg. focus on the breath) has been shown to increase dopamine in the brain, increase dopamine D2 receptors and increase the physical size of the prefrontal cortex per MRI - the brain part related to focus. All within weeks!

Other types of meditation such as "empty mind" types have been shown to increase the size of the corpus callosum, think of this as computer network cable which links both half of the brains.

Theres a book whos author interviewed many many Fortune 500 CEO's, looking for common practises amongst them. The author found the majority of them meditate daily amonst other things.

I would think you would talk to your primary care physician for that. I would guess if you live in Florida they may prescribe differently than if you don't.

Ritalin didn't do much for me. The long acting Adderall was an erection killer!!!

But, the short acting Adderall is a lifesaver for me. Helps control my focus, outbursts, and keeps me a lot more "normal" for my adult life. Also, doesn't affect me in the bedroom.

Short acting Adderall between 5-10mg dosed twice a day, on days I need it only, works great for me. I don’t take it everyday. Only during the week when needed. Helps me stay focused and can complete tasks. I think the trick is not taking it daily. You don’t have to by focused allday/everyday. Just use it when you know you have a a lot to do that day.
