Global trends in testosterone prescribing, 2000–2011 around the world

This is an excellent reference about the uptake in testosterone sales around the world in the past 11 years.

"Over 11 years, total testosterone sales increased 12-fold globally, rising from $150 million in 2000 to $1.8 billion in 2011. For all regions and 37 of 41 countries, there was a progressive and increasingly steep increase in per capita use over that period (Box 1). This rise was markedly steeper from the middle of the decade, consistently in almost all countries (Box 2). In parallel, the proportion of testosterone sales as transdermal products also increased overall as well as in each region, especially in the second half of the decade for most countries (Box 1)."

Are there any good studies on Testosterone levels in men over the years?
I have read a few which show that today men overall have less Testosterone then our father and grandfathers had and speculate as to what the underlying cause is.

SoCal I would be interested in the same data. I have also heard that men's T levels are much lower than historically. Especially in the US. It could be a combination of genetic selection and an increase in drug use (Rx), among possible environmental factors.

Men with lower T historically may have lived longer because the High T men took more risks, settled down less, etc. Just a "top of my head hypothesis".

Very interesting

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
