Did you know androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) lowers testosterone levels, which then causes prostate cancer cells to die? On July 10th, PHEN held a Managing Survivorship Webinar where Dr. Alicia Morgans, Medical Director of the Survivorship Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, outlined exactly how ADT works. PHEN Ambassador Sherman Womack also shared his prostate cancer journey with ADT. Find out more about ADT’s role in treating prostate cancer and its potential side effects by watching PHEN’s Managing Survivorship Webinar recording.

* a lot of the side-effects we see are related not to just low testosterone but also to really low levels of estrogens in men so we've got low levels of testosterone and we've got levels of estrogen that are lower than the levels that we see in postmenopausal women, so really low levels of all the hormones we are thinking about

Understanding Your Hormones

Estradiol (E2)

A form of estrogen produced from testosterone. Important for bone health, mood, and libido. Too high can cause side effects; too low can affect well-being.

DHT

Dihydrotestosterone is a potent androgen derived from testosterone. Affects hair growth, prostate health, and masculinization effects.

Free Testosterone

The biologically active form of testosterone not bound to proteins. Directly available for cellular uptake and biological effects.
