Wellbutrin While on TRT

I have been researching trying to find a reason my libido is missing and why I in general have been experiencing anhedonia. My drive to do the things I enjoy has really gone down the drain. Even basic things like riding my e-bike or playing video games, or talking with friends. I figured TRT should have the opposite effect but anyway. I was looking into dopamine. My prolactin is near the top of the range, around 14. I know thats is not astronomical but it might suggest my dopamine is low.

So with that, does anyone have experience with wellbutrin?

I’ve been trying to figure this out for 9.5 of the last 11 years. I basically have no libido on trt but feel good otherwise. There’s honestly nothing I haven’t tried including Wellbutrin. This is a very common problem even though many say it isn’t.

Madman I respect your opinion but you’ve been on here long enough to know it is a common problem after long term suppression. Even Nelson has stated he’s nearly asexual without hcg. I can’t put a percentage on it and wouldn’t dare do so without hard evidence but libido issues do arise quiet commonly along with ED and sensitivity issues. None of us know the ramifications of shutting numerous hormone pathways down long term and unfortunately it will be quiet some time before we do have hardcore data stating such.

Yes, there are issues that can arise regarding libido but I am speaking about permanent loss of libido which is far from common in men on trt.

When it comes to libido let alone erectile function there is much more involved than having healthy testosterone levels.

Yeah with myself there is a day or so here and there but especially after the 5-6 year mark on trt I’m probably 10-15% of what I was even with low t. While trying to come off a couple times there’s been a spot both times around 10-12 days that I feel normal. This goes away as quickly as it appears. I think cataceous is onto something with the various other factors that come into play with a normal functioning htpa. He’s certainly dedicated more so than I could ever be, because it sounds like a difficult schedule to keep up with. It does sound promising and can perhaps shed some light on why some men do suffer once their system is offline.

Most definitely as I thought about this well before I went on trt.

The thought of shutting down my hpta and what long-term effects it may have.

Unfortunately many are only manipulating one piece of the puzzle with the use of hCG which mimics LH.

Have you ever thought about trying Natesto (3x daily)?

The cost would be the biggest factor but you could get it compounded through Defy which would be the best option.

If I were in your situation for such length of time I would definitely give it a go as you have nothing to lose.

Natesto would allow you to reap the short-term benefits of elevated T levels while at the same maintaining residual natural testosterone production.

As a matter of fact I have some I got 4-5 months ago but never pulled the trigger to give it a chance. My insurance does cover it and it could definitely be a possibility of rectifying the problems. I guess I’m being a big chickenshit because the two times I’ve tried going off injections has been the most horrendous experience I’ve ever been through. I don’t know how withdrawals from anything could be that bad but perhaps it’s because I’ve been shut down for 11 years. I think I might give it a try and start next week. My shot day is Friday so I’ll wait until the following week to start. At this point I really have nothing to lose and it should make transitioning from the injections much easier. As you know from us talking before I’ve never required high levels on TRT to feel good and honestly on 60 to 80 mg a week I feel fantastic I just have no libido.

I would go in headfirst and dose 3x daily which would be the most effective protocol for replacement therapy.

Give it a few months before jumping the gun on how you feel overall.

Again cost would be the biggest factor and if you can obtain it through Defy than it is a no brainer.

Really what do you have to lose?

You certainly have a point and avoiding the withdrawal from injections would only be a plus.

2 months vs 9.5 yearzzzzzzzzz!

Another idea for easing the withdrawal would be a taper of the injections. If you stop injections immediately upon starting the nasal gel then you'll have very low testosterone between gel applications, and especially overnight. If instead of stopping injections altogether you cut the dose such that you have a lowish base level of serum testosterone, say 200-300 ng/dL, then you may avoid feeling bad. Over the weeks you would reduce and eventually eliminate the injected testosterone and hope that your HPTA picks up the slack. The one risk of this method is in prolonging the transition. But if you feel better during the transition then it could be a worthwhile tradeoff.

Alternatively, in theory the transition might be eased with my pituitary restart protocol. It would be followed just long enough to confirm endogenous testosterone production—while tapering the TRT dose. Then an immediate switch to nasal gel should be less traumatic, especially if kisspeptin were used, either in place of or in addition to GnRH.

I have been on TRT for 2+ years and Wellbutrin (Bupropion) for around 8 months. I take 300XR every morning as soon as I open my eyes. My TRT protocol is 46MG Cyp 2x/week along with 500iu HCG at the same time.

My depression did improve slightly when I started TRT, but at the time I went on Wellbutrin I was feeling pretty desperate. My GF was even telling me I HAD to do something. We had gone on a cruise and I had a miserable time because of it...

Wellbutrin helped me quite a bit. I am not depression-free and still have trouble with wanting to do things sometimes, but I am a whole lot better. With me it's a lot of self-flagellation, reliving every mistake I've ever made, and inability to stop thinking intensely negative thoughts about myself, my past and the future. Wellbutrin quieted that part of my mind a lot.

But here is the kicker: Wellbutrin turbo-charged my sex drive. I mean it was night and day. When I first started I couldn't stop thinking about sex, it was crazy. In fact, 8 months later, it still has a major effect. It's like how I felt in my 20s and 30s (I'm 52).

I have also read about girls feeling the same way on it, and some say that it was too much. I personally love it, and told my psych nurse that the drug should be FDA approved as an aphrodisiac.

Welbutrin helping with libido seems totally hit and miss according to everything I have read, so consider yourself lucky that it worked so well for you. A lot of us on TRT still have low libido no matter how many times we adjust the protocol over the months and years.

My experience with Welbutrin/Bupropion and TRT has been fine. Energy and mood are good. If anything, Bupropion should increase energy levels.

Yes, certainly I have no idea what effect it would have on someone else. I am definitely lucky it works that way for me.

For someone with depression it is certainly worth a try.

People have various reactions to medications and may even react differently at one time from another. To be clear, I was mainly referencing energy levels and mood. There are so many variables when it comes to our libidos that it can be really hard to pin down the cause.

It is my thinking libido is about sex drive and not about ED. I have had ED most of my adult life. It would be hard to know what if any affect Welbutrin or test has on it. Several years ago, I had prostate cancer and a prostatectomy. As the doctor predicted, the pretty much killed any chance of improving ED. Tri-mix injections are the only thing that works for my ED. ED Pills such as Viagra have no effect, never have.
