Previous studies have shown an association of vitamin D and androgen levels in men. However, a recent study from Austria, a randomized control trial, provided conflicting results.

- Men with total testosterone greater than 10.4nmol/l (300 ng/dl) and healthy vitamin D levels were divided into two groups.
- One group received 20,000 IU of vitamin D per week for 12 weeks while one group received a placebo.
- Vitamin D treatment had no effect on total testosterone levels in the, so-called, healthy men in this study, but it did have a significant effect on the insulin-check sensitivity index.
- As is typical, more investigation is being called for.
