I just would like to post some of my findings that might end up helping someone.
I have been suffering ON and OFF from tinnitus. And after a long time I was able to find a definitive connection (for me at least) between low ferritin and tinnitus. Every time my ferriting gets really low i get tinnitus. Tinnitus goes away after ferritin go back to normal levels.

How low did your ferritin have to get before the tinnitus kicked in? When you write about it returning to "normal," did you mean simply in range, or toward the upper end of the range?

Thanks!

Tinnitus would start when ferritin very low (<10-20). So usually after donating blood it would get really bad. When > 30 it would improve and pretty much go away >50. My ferritin level before TRT was 200 territory.

I couldn't really say, I suffer from Tinnitus but it's more related to guns and my military service, and loud music prior to that, than anything else. It's bad enough that I'm technically "disabled" and receive a monthly stipend/compensation from the VA. Given that I've not noticed it go up or down since I've been on TRT, and I know for a fact my Ferritin has been subterranean levels in the teens but I'm correcting that now. Last test had me in the 40s and no affect on Tinnitus

I have a mild case, it flares during Canadian winters. Ferritin is smack in the middle of the range, but I am open to bumping it to find out if this may impact me.

I have this as well, most likely due to ear buds on full blast while mowing during my younger years, and gun fire.

After I started TRT it definitely has become worse. I have recently been theorizing that Cialis may actually be to blame as I started using it around the same time that I started TRT. This has caused me a lot of concern lately because it occasionally makes it difficult to fall asleep, and I may eventually have to choose between ED drugs or my hearing.

Thank you for sharing your connection! I will dig my iron supplement out of the cupboard, and ask for ferritin on my next set of labs.

Cialis is pretty known for some sinus congestion and from having seasonal allergies or being sick my Tinnitus is 10x worse when my head is congested.

I never had tinnitus before. It all started after donating blood several times. And it would go away after a few months without donating. I was able to turn on and off my tinnitus several times just by controlling donation frequency. So I realized the connection with ferritin (at least for me).

Man it just goes to show how different we all are. I've had tinnitis 24/7 for the last 8 years.
I got from my work where I was in a lab that simulated rocket engine noise and vibrations.
Even with ear protestion it gets to you after 28 years of exposure.

When I started TRT I had times when my tinnitis was almost gone. But it would come and go and I could not pin down why.

When I started experimenting with ED drugs the big 3 my Tinnitis came rooring back louder than ever before.
Livitra(sp?) is the worse for me. all were daily low dose and I never took a recommended dose for sex.

I’m having the same issue . Any particular way you raised your ferritin?

Awesome ! Do you mind if I ask what you lowered your dose to and your frequency of injection? I currently do 50 mgs on Monday Wednesday and Friday but I’m starting to think that may be too much , as I’ve heard a lot of guys do great on just 100 mgs a week.

Maybe out of the context here but since I started with lexapro for years back my tinnitus got worse. Now I only take 5mg and its much better for woh when I was on 10mg. weird really

I lowered to 50mg twice a week. I also take 400IU HCG twice a week and no AI. Every single side effect I had from TRT disappeared after I reduced my dosage

Glad to hear it! Would you mind giving us a brief overview of how high your dose used to be/various protocols you had tried and the side effects you used to have?

I tried as high as 90mg twice a week and as low as 50mg twice a week. Stayed a long time using 70mg twice a week. HCG i used from 800IU to 1500IU weekly divided in 2-3 injections.

Side effects: high HCT, high E2 (had to use an AI), low HDL, high iron saturation, low ferritin due to constant blood donations, water retention

Thanks for the reply - helpful information. One last question: did you notice any changes in body composition/strength going from the higher doses to lower doses? Anything else that maybe was working out better on the higher doses despite the negative sides, or is everything better on the lower dose?

Zero. And i am a “bodybuilder”. Have been lifting for over 20 years. Just as a reference my FT now is low mid 20. At 180mg a week it was high 30s. Zero difference whatsoever in body composition, performance, recovery. One thing worth mentioning is that at higher dosages my anxiety kicked in and i was very energetic not in a good way if you know what i mean

I've always associated my tinnitus to high or low estrogen, when estrogen is high I take an AI and am find until estrogen is very low, then tinnitus begins again.

Women get tinnitus when estrogen drops in menopause.

Also be sure that your taking in enough Magnesium . TRT tends to use up the body’s source of magnesium at quicker rates than normal and a lack of magnesium can cause tinnitus.
