Welcome to Excelmale,

It sounds like you're not absorbing the T-Gel anymore, it's quite common. Most men do well in the 600-800 ranges, your doctor is likely not well versed in TRT. We see guys coming in here all the time with similar stories, doctors satisfied with very low testosterone levels. Most endo's are completely clueless about all things related to male hormones which is why the gel was scripted right away, injectables is the most effective treatment 100% absorbed and also requires the most skill from your doctor.

If you want proper care you will likely have to go private because insurance is useless for TRT. TRT requires a skilled doctor that just isn't available to those with insurance, most of us were in your shoes at one point and now pay for TRT out of pocket because we got sick of dealing with one clueless doctor after another.

Most healthy 30 year olds are within the 600-800 ranges and some seek out TRT for the range your scoring in.

Are you applying the gel 2 hours before having blood drawn? You should be. 4 pumps of Androgel will have you above 380 even with absorption problems noted by SystemLord

Your doctor is misinformed...or just stupid. The vast majority of us here at Excelmale are using an injection protocol. Injections don't "cause liver damage and worse side effects," as you were told. They are a recognized way of treating hypogonadism.

Th real reason why he's against injections is he doesn't know how to manage any potential side effects that might arise, forcing you to go somewhere else. His comment about liver damage is completely fabricated and false. You require a knowledgeable doctor and yours is not. Most guys who are on TRT are on injections, once, twice or more injections per week depending on SHBG levels. Some require an estrogen blocker and HCG to keep testicles functioning, mention either of these to your doctor and he will look at you funny.

Healthy 30 year olds on average are scoring in the 600-800 ranges, your doctor is clueless.

A lot of us must pay out of pocket for proper care, insurance is useless for TRT for most. Defy medical offers a online service for those in remote areas where doctor choices are limited.

I'm in Norther California

You have almost no chance of find a competent doctor in your location, there few and far between even in Southern California. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that we typically go through several doctors before we find a good one. I gave you an option to get a very experienced doctor on the first attempt.

Most endocrinologist don't really do TRT on a regular basis, but if someone comes in they will do their best which is often not good enough. It's like a game of poker, you never know what hand you'll get delt.

Jay not sure where you are in NorCal. I'm here as well and I did a lot of research and discovered two providers that were recommended: Dr. Paul Turek and Dr. Karron L. Power. I haven't worked with Dr. Power but Koshland pharmacy has a video of her doing a presentation on TRT therapy and she seemed pretty well informed.

I met with Dr. Turek as he is a fertility specialist and I wanted to get a sperm count done before starting TRT as well as bank. While speaking to him about fertility I mentioned my desire to use HCG to maintain fertility, which my endo wasn't on board with, and he was a proponent and wrote me a prescription for HCG.

Currently, like you I'm on 4 pumps of Androgel. I'm on week 3 and it's been nothing short of amazing for me, sorry to hear its not working for you. That being said in order to bring my care all under one knowledgeable expert I am thinking of transitioning to Defy Medical. The only downside as others have noted is that they aren't under insurance and they use compounded pharmacies. Currently my endo who prescribed the Androgel is covered by insurance and the androgel only costs $5 to pick up at the local CVS. Dr. Turek had an initital consult cost which wasn't covered by insurance (most fertility related stuff for men isn't), which wasn't too much and is totally worth it to have your sperm count done, and then the HCG cost is $100 for a 10,000 IU bottle from MDR Pharamcy for the brand name Pregnyl.

Hope that's of help.

Dr. Turek is well regarded - Nelson has posted some of his writings here on the Forum. Dr. Power is not as well known, but has a strong reputation.

You need to scrub the area of application and let it dry then apply your T gel and spread it as far as you can before it dries. The more skin contact the higher the level will be. If your arms are not that big use your inner thigh to have more area to spread it. You can also treat the application area with a lotion at the end of the day. Total T is not where you need to be looking. You need labs for free T, DHT, SHBG and E2.

Is that who u using now?

Currently my endo prescribed me Androgel and I am using Dr. Turek for HCG/Fertility testing yes. I am thinking of consolidating all my various doctors into one. Was contemplating Defy, but I'd like to use brand name drugs, so may end up going with him for everything.
