My son turns 15 in October. He’s on the freshman foot ball team. Has lifted weights under supervision for 4 months and is prett gifted in the genetics dept. was curious to check him now and ever year or two just for curiosity.

Has anyone ever done this before

This is definitely not common, only parents who are super responsible, would do something such as this, considering the generational decline and testosterone.

I would only use the equilibrium dialysis method for the Free T measurement. Also, it wouldn’t hurt to check his estrogen and DHT.

Right now your son is in beginning of Tanner stage five puberty, the last stage before becoming a man. I would also test your son at 20-21 when testosterone is at its peak.

Total T testing can be plus or minus 50-70 ng/dL as far as accuracy goes.
